Calling on the photographers

Hello fellow growers! You people here on the OG have inspired me once again. I just recently purchased a new camera . I went with the Canon T7i due to cost and functionality for what I want. I want to do justice to my grow/shows. I’m looking specifically at macro photos. I was wandering if someone can kindly point me out to some high quality macro lenses for my setup. I’m hoping 2 spend no more than 1000 usd. I really enjoy the upclose of trichs and personal shots of the soil critters for identification. Does anyone know of a good aftermarket lense for t+his purpose??? I would like to shoot raw in manual. And what settings are you using most commonly aperture, speed etc.

EF-S 60mil macro f2.8

Or Tokina 100 mil macro f2.8

Mrs Foreigner is a photographer and I asked her and she suggested these.

All the best.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely look these up. What photo editing software does your wife mostly use?

She uses light room and photoshop.

I liked photography, didn’t care for the cost. So can only offer a bit of experience, but Mrs Foreigner nailed it. Quality prime lens (that being a lens with a fixed focal length, no zoom) and a f2.8 aperture will do you good. I believe I was eyeing this for portraits and macros but I was 19, sold the camera and bought a guitar or something stupid. That’s what I’d roll with if I had the cash.

Lol I did the same exact thing. I now have 15 very expensive guitars. Your definitely right photography is very expensive. I’ve always been drawn to it. I guess it’s never to late…

Friend of mine is a big photographer… he brought out this carry-on sized suitcase from the future, opened it up and showed me a damn telescope of a lens. I asked him, how much is all that glass? Well, he got a deal and so on, but around 3,000 USD. Fuck, alright, I see why you live on a budget now. Lol, people got different priorities. That’s why I always went Canon; when you go shooting together you can use some fancy lenses.

I have a canon 100mm L series that i love to bits. almost as much as my sony G 90mm . I like that range in primes, they dont really work for trichome shots imo, cropping can give an idea, but its meh at best I’m not really into microscopic photography.

Anyone know about the leowa 5:1 ultra macro? It is only manual focus, that’s to be expected at that range. I have never heard of them. But there are tons of whotube videos on them. They seam 2 cheap 2 b Tru. Kind of like led lights on amazon.

I went back to college for photography in 1995 and it was literally the beginning of the end of analog or film photography. We were still using the darkroom and chemistry to develop our work.

My camera was a Minolta x700 old school.

I have thousands of negatives to try and scan into digital format.

Macro is so fun with cannabis. It’s a beautiful and mysterious subject.

I have an inexpensive Canon camera now but it never worked that great and on top of that I dunked it in the lake while kayaking. It’s actually working at 50% but better than before.

I am smoking some really good pot and forgot how to get home. I’m on the front porch so I may figure it out. peace

Indeed, It’s a great camera. But it is ultra cropped sensor won’t allow you to enlarge prints. Too grainy. But at least you will always have your camera with you.

I’m a canon fan. The real question is how much are you willing to spend? That played a major role in my purchase. I ended up getting the Canon T7i it is not mirrorless, and it a crop sensor Camara. The speed and practically unlimited lense choices, was another factor the video quality is great. Most pro photos are full frame mirror less cameras. I’ve already invested almost 2000$ into what I have…and I’m just beginning…but I love it…it’s almost as addicting as growing weed, now I want to marry the two hobbies together…

Thats a very good question indeed =). I would have to ask the wife lol, id say for starters 500 - 600 if that would even do it or if i should stick with my Android lol

I’m torn between the Tokina 100mm macro, and the Tamron vp90 mm macro. Thanks again for the input.

That’s why I chose the the Canon T7i. The starter kit is about 650-700$ with all the bells n whistles. You can find the T7 even cheaper but without Bluetooth and older digital platform sensor.
