Cannabis Current Events (Part 1)

Continuing discussion from:

I’m not going to go digging through old news, but it was a repeated talking point at his rallies in the time between his campaign announcement and taking office. Jeff Sessions also said that he would go after legalization at this time.

Fortunately, no one followed through on this. Trump changed his mind on this shortly after entering office, saying he thought there was merit to medical cannabis, and that he would allow legalization to remain under control of state governments.

I’ve got to give him credit for changing his mind on that one.

edit- looks like I may have spoke too soon. being from leafly, this article isn’t very well written, but it does have some substantive information. Trump is planning to alter the federal budget to once again allow federal funding to be used for legal action against medical cannabis patients protected by state law.
He is also taking control of cannabis sales in Washington DC away from the DC mayor, who had used her authority to legalize sale of marijuana on all non-federal property within washingotn dc.

He is also making moves to take regulatory control of cannabis out of the hands of state governments, and into the hands of the food and drug administration. This has the potential to allow pharmaceutical companies to gain control of medical cannabis markets, and control legal access to cannabis or more likely, cannabis derivatives.

This substantive action toward political changes that will take cannabis out of the hands of users and patients and into the hands of big pharma, as well as giving federal law enforcement new funding and ability to go after patients and growers, is potentially a lot worse for us than it was for him to make a moral stance against cannabis use in his speeches.

Once again, it seems he is making preparations to target medical cannabis in his upcoming term, if elected.
