Ugh yes, I learned first had recently that they can overwinter in the soil only to come back when you bring that soil back in (I know better).

One more interesting fact, they are often called “thunderbugs” because they tend to move inside when there are thunderstorms.

That is very cool getting your kid involved, exposing them to this level of science at an early age is priceless (did similar shit - it pays off later :+1:).

heh heh she fulfilled my dreams by becoming a fully actuated human being with all emotional functions intact LOL graduating from highschool specializing in mathematics. She wanted to do those science things like her role model…me. It’s a complex relationship…uhhh maybe beyond comprehension hah hah. But…when I saw her for the first time, all mute sitting there, that trapped inside her was something a human being could never purchase with any number of dollars. Hope for the future. Only by protecting the next generation from systems of abuse, can the human race ever hope to move forward. he hheh thanks @Gpaw, you always know which questions to ask. :vulcan_salute:

alright we’ll do an example run like I just did. Buddy says hey are my plants infested? I mean we’ll pretend I’m a normal person who can’t just spot those fuckers from space. So I go into the room by myself with the following:
rag/paper/toilet paper/use your imagination.
Isopropyl alcohol
scissors.
I’ll prep it like so, dump some iso on the paper and soak it in.


next, I swab a random place on the plant I suspect things could hide. And then cut out any sections with a dot to place on the slide.

Final stage: check contaminate to see if it’s animal/mineral/vegetable :wink:

Definitely vegetable!!! I mean, spider mite!!! Then the bad news: “Bruuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh it’s borg nits!” hah hah just kidding. I tell em they got two spot mite. vulnerability: mechanical forces, environmental variables. Protocol 0 will wipe them out.

Once I have identified the enemy I can now choose to use the syringe pictured next to the toilet paper to place that on a slide and preserve it for eternity. Or just flush it down the drain like another useless bug. I take the cap off the syringe and use the sharpest tip of the needle to carefully pluck the bug carcass off and transfer it to the slide. Put on a cover then number 7 contact cement it in place by running a ring of cement around the outer edge of the cover. Only use number seven contact cement or it can capillary underneath the cover and dissolve the sample. Number 7 will not capillary or dissolve the sample, it’s water based fiber glue.

yah it’s just a method of drowning all critters and washing them off. It replaced protocol 1 which was “don’t bring anything in from outside” but then I can’t bring in random plants and test them.

You can see those delectable fungus colonies prepping for overwintering. PAthogens multiplying like mad rabbits!!!

shit I forgot! Vulnerability is SULFUR! I would mix up a batch of defender sulfur concentrate and go to town on those pathogens. Their life-cycle can’t withstand the element sulfur. I’m sure you can imagine someone…like me…spraying the colony and seeing how it DIES!!! DIE DIE DIESDIESIDIEIEI!!!

ok well you might notice my image captures are something crazy wild. The secret is put your sample on a stable surface. Take a picture from a stable surface. Everything stable and not moving around. If you have instability… I guess I would recommend the latest optics and burst mode photography. Then you can delete all the out of focus shots. Imagine your a wildlife photographer and you have to take 1000 photos to get that single priceless one of a lion cub.

Right, so this one time I won a hash 4 pack it was like tan to white color in little canisters. I had won it by winning the hash contest right? irony. So I get the hash home and I rub it between my fingers and it feels like sand. D-NOH! I mean I’ve been on this planet a long time looking for that something something which could even be like my hash. You know? Like a bubble hash hunt. Anyways… I came back to the contest dude and I said hey that hash I won was contaminated with plant fibers, synthetic fibers and random organics/growing medium. I am willing to bet that knowledge hurt.

Yah when I find synthetics in there I feel dirty inside somehow, like I’ve inhaled vaporized polymers. Unfortunately you can’t feel the fibers, only see them. Not sure how polymer smoke affects your mind.
