So I feed the feral cats in my neighborhood some kibble every day, with occasional tunafish as a special treat. All the local kitties come by our house for a bite to eat, morning and night. There are at least three cats in the front yard and 8-9 in the back yard who come by, most regularly and 2-3 only occasionally… with a few opossums, some raccoons, and a family of skunks😂

Well, yesterday morning my girl opened our front door (14 steps above the street, mind you), and there was a new kitty on our doorstep – extremely emaciated and with paralyzed back legs, looking like he was on deaths door with the key in his paw. It slowly scooted away, attempting to flee down my stairs into my neighbors bushes at the bottom of the stairwell, I grabbed it and brought it inside and have been nursing it back to health all day and night… it is barely breathing and hardly moving so I am giving it all the love and support I can in its time of need. I have been feeling awful for the little guy, knowing it will never chase a birdie or frolic in the grass with all the other kitties, and have called all over the bay area looking for a vet with availability but everyone is on a skeleton crew for the weekend and there has been no availability and only lame suggestions of considering euthanasia… but that is not even a possible consideration: I love all life forms and would never consider ending one prematurely. Anywho… I have not been online much and have been focused on taking care of this precious little kitty and felt the need to share my experience. I have not yet given him a name but he will get one… we let the kitties dictate their names so he just needs to heal up and tell us what to call him. Here are some pics of my little trooper, we have bathed him and have been trying to help keep him clean since he isn’t moving much and has bad runs :crying_cat_face:

I hope everyone is well and your kitties and other pets are in good health and enjoying life as much as possible despite any physical limitations. Life is short and precious and sometimes I feel we don’t realize just how precious it really is and how lucky we are to experience this brief moment of consciousness in our small corner of space and time in this vast universe

Prayers and vibes with your new friend in need. I have recently started feeding our strays because of the brutal winter months and deep snow, making it impossible for them to find food. So, now I have a really beautiful kitten that hangs here pretty regular now, and a few of the larger ones. They get a morning and evening feed if they want it. They’re starting to get comfortable with me and play and roll around on the front porch. It feels good to see them satisfied and happy. Hard to turn away from an animal in need. :v:

That sure is kind of you, they definitely appreciate it. And it sure is hard to turn away any being in need. Plus there is something really satisfying about watching them roll around on the floor :joy:

They had a snippet on the news about folks who adopted animals, (all kinds) during the pandemic who are now finding it too difficult to maintain the upkeep and cost. :woman_facepalming:t3:

That being said, shelters across Canada are seeing an influx of animals being dropped off, as “strays”. Enforcement officers are doing extra work tracing these animals and finding in a lot of cases it’s actually abandonment. :slightly_frowning_face:

In cases where domesticated animals are being abandoned in parks or forested areas they’re being found emaciated, with frozen ears or little toe beans! It’s atrocious! :rage:

Sorry to go kinda “dark”, but what you guys/gals are doing feeding the feral/strays is awesomely wonderful :star_struck: and makes my heart swell. :heartbeat:

To all of you out there that can and do…

Many, many Thank you’s! 🫶🏻

And that’s how you know that that person should never own a pet, or have a child. I mean, really? So infuriating. Glad to hear your babies are doing better

I hear it’s nice! HA! At the moment I’m in Portland visiting my son and his family, but the rain (and a bit of snow Tuesday morning) have also been lovely here.
