Hmm. Very nice, I am sorta interested in how these would work.

I use the cup in a cup trick the cup on the inside opens right up no struggling to get them out anymore @Pigeonman yeah all the promix is “heavy” since going to ROLS and adding a third compost and a third aeration much better not saying this is what you should do just commiserating , the first few plants I grew after firing the perpetual tents back up were in straight promix it was rough

Funny you say this. my partner has crocheted several things for the garden! Vine trellis, tree wrap, etc.

“20 5 gal containers it’s getting to tedious for me” ← I’m only dealing with a few 30/20/15/5 gallons. If it were closer to your numbers I’d find it tedious as well. The washing machine idea sounds solid. I dumped mine into a large tub of water and walked on them like I was the great Grape Lady before the remix.

“solo cups and drill holes” i stopped drilling and bought a cheap as fuck soldering iron to poke clean holes into solo cups and yogurt containers. I found it works much cleaner.

“They’re also smaller on the bottom than they are on the top so when the plant gets past a certain size they are super easy to knock over while watering which drives me crazy.” ← I put my solo cups into yogurt containers with a small amount of stones at the bottom which keeps the bottom of the solo from sitting in water, and prevents them from falling over.

What size container are you aiming for? Personally if I have the time for soil up potting i go with: 250ml clear cup → Solo cup → Yogurt Container (750ml) → .75gal pot → 2 Gal → whatever my final. (5/15/20/30gal)

EDIT: When i transplant, I use a razor to score the edges and the base of the root ball before placing it into the next container to promote root growth. I also BOG double pot so it all looks like a tree growing out of a stepped pyramid when done.

I’m aiming for 2 gallon. 3 if that’s all I can find but as far as I’ve looked so far I can’t find either. That stones at the bottom is a good idea for the solo cups. I’m trying to get heavy drydowns during flower so aiming for smaller pots than what I’ve been using (5gal) since they don’t dry out fast enough. Looking like I might have no choice but to go back to the thicker fabric ones I have been using, can’t find bigger than the 1 ish gal thin ones that can be planted directly.

Once money permits I am going to be getting into learning crop steering as much as possible using a moisture sensor (meter group teros 12) and auto irrigation. Some of the best growers that I look up to are putting it into practice and the results are very impressive to say the least. Although got to admit some of it is too complicated for me but I’ll pick up what I can :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Here’s a page that explains things in a bit more detail

I also want to buy this book The Book - Plant Empowerment but as someone who has gotten all of their books for free, paying even for a useful book especially one that expensive is hard for me to swallow.

Airpots is where it’s at! Beneficial for the plant but also when you’re done you just unscrew the little plastic screws and put the size off. No muss no fuss.

I literally wash my cloth pots in my washing machine. Flip them inside out and hose then down first, then right in the machine with a cup of vinegar to dissolve any residual salts.

I was gonna suggest that @Slick1, but you’re obviously named Slick1 for a reason.

Check out my scts 2 thread. I’m auto watering hempies and soil and it’s amazing.

Does anything get the roots out? I am kinda paranoid putting them into my washing machine but I guess that’s what they’re for :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve heard of using enzymes but seems expensive.

I haven’t had the roots dig in deep enough to stay attached. They come off when I spray with the hose

Damn, lucky. I literally have them growing through to the other side, It makes it such a pain to take the roots out of the pot always end up having to rip them off and there’s always a bunch stuck. I love the fabric pots other than that issue.

Do you have space between your pots? I put mine into individual dollar store totes so they have space around them to breath.

Look - a rabbit hole I haven’t been down!!! I guess I missed that thread - great way to spend a Wednesday morning. I’ll read through and learn about airpots. Thanks @anon93244739 for getting me away from the train wreck and focus back on why I’m here. Love to learn, grow and share! :green_heart:

Interesting. I bought a brand that was heavier in the weaving than some of the fabric pots out there… I also have never had roots breaching the material. Makes me wonder if the weave is your issue?

I keep saying I’ve upped my game here in the last 8 months than previous 5 years. When I saw the results of auto watering in the 16oz challenge I knew that was what I needed. Now I need to figure out how to do these short period timers so I can have it run for like 30 seconds every 3 hours.

I’ve had the issue with every bag brand I’ve tried and I’ve been through quite a few. The last few kinds I got were advertised as being the heavy duty ones.

Here’s an old one I found in my garage. Wish I could find a pic of them in life because the tips of the roots poke outta tiny bit from all sides but I have way too many pics on my PC to ever find em in less than an hour haha.

Have you tried a 2" layer of Perlite at the bottom as a buffer?
