Have a silly question, other than alcohol, what would be the second best option to clean tar from bongs!? Would leaving it immersed in bleach with water do!?

Won’t get it sparkling but lots and lots of hot water.
Naphtha(lighter fluid), gasoline, can’t think of much else. Ime, alcohol is the most effective while staying safest.

My hands down choice for cleaning my glass is Grunge Off. Unlike other glass cleaners I’ve tried (not including alcohol and rock salt), Grunge Off doesn’t have a VoC odor. It’s odor is a pleasant citrus smell. I have two bongs, one of which is always filled with Grunge Off. Depending on how much residue the bong has, I think I normally get five or six cleanings per jar. The plastic jug it comes in doesn’t pour well (i.e., it leaks down the neck after the pour), so I use a different jug that I know pours well.
My bongs stay relatively clean for an extended period of time because I use a carbon filter adapter. I cough less and my glass stays cleaner for longer. Because I have a smoking related cough (I’ve been smoking weed for coming on 60 years in July, 2025, no tobacco), I’ve been waffling far too long about upgrading from my beloved bongs to a triple-filtered bubbler. It’s just a little pricey for my cheap ass. If I were to consult Mrs. mota, she’d probably just buy it for my health’s sake. Hmmmm…
In any event, I’ve also heard that Efferdent denture cleaner will also work. My guess, without any evidence, is that if it does work, it wouldn’t work on a seriously dirty bong.
