Coffweed’s Secret World Headquarters, Three Tents and some LEDs in Organic Living Soil

I emailed HighGrove asking about controller recommendations — but do yall have any controller recommendations?

I like some things about the VivoSun GrowHub (notably that I can hit it from afar), and haven’t personally had any problems with it turning on/off lights and fans properly — but I have heard some folks have had troubles with things actually turning on, etc.

What are you using? Enjoying it? What’s the best out there and why? From my brief reading it does seem there is a mix of some universal dimming compatibility and then specific not compatible spectrum stuff depending on the lights.

Some controllers are wild ($1300 for the Fohse controller but it also does a few other things — still a bit steep!).

Vivosun honestly seems to be bottom barrel stuff.
I have a small dehumidifier from them and for whatever reason they put a big ‘C’ on the front that glows in the dark?
Why the fuck would any respectable grow company put anything glow in the dark on their items for indoor cultivation? Who’s their market, 10 year olds? Epic fail IMO!

Controller only works in 1 hour increments?? Haha it’s 2024; bottom of the barrel IMHO.

I have ac infinity controller 69 and 69 w/ Wi-Fi. It’s all gravy. Works in 1 minute intervals. And controls everything more than well.

I did just purchase the California light works solarsystem 275 w/ their controller so I can control red, white, blue spectrum. But that only controls the light.

That light you have their looks like she will put out some serious numbers!

It seems like a solid light.

Yeah, VivoSun is definitely mid grade at best. Some things they seem to do well enough (some humidifiers and tents, fans) — I’m using several of their things and they do work, but some of their products are plain silly — like the glowing C contraption. Or the GrowHub that only works in hours for lighting (yet can go down to the minute for fans?).

I’m curious how you like the CLW lights — they look to be very high quality and with that full spectrum tuning you can really get into some plant steering stuff too. I’m staying tuned!

I probably won’t document the grow as it’ll be over the winter and I’ll be hustling in the forest, but I will definitely let ya know. Seems to be perfect for my scenario as it’s only 200w and everyone seems to be head over heels for them.
Plus on sale atm!
The idea of controlling spectrum is what really turned me on, with the added bonus of setting sunrise/sunset with far red which has shown to be very beneficial for the plants :potted_plant:

HighGrove responded (quickly!) — basically said most folks use AC Infinity Controllers.

Hustle away brother — love that you’re out there growing and living in the woods! Still jelly of your commute, lol.

AC Infinity 69 Pro controllers here too, 2 tents each with 1 controller per tent. I haven’t had any issues other than user error. :green_heart: Once setup they’ve worked great (for me anyhow) and have a lot flexibility IMHO. YMMV.

Boveda’s will kill terps. They are salt based and strip the smell and taste. Also do not need anything like that until storage. :v:

Dually noted!

Look into grove bags

Those are 100% on my list along with a few other things (tray, a few bins) for harvesting/drying/curing.

Are the Boveda packs okay after a point?

I see a lot of conflicting evidence for them. See Terpene Preservation Experiment: Boveda vs. Traditional Flower Storage and then there are a bunch of posts of folks saying things similar to what you did — that they kill terps and make things smell like hay.

My brain wants to understand. Should I be planning on using these things for storage? Should they never go near flower and their advertising is completely false?

At the end of the day I’m happy to be growing some flower. Packs or not.

Speaking of flower…the Maui is juuuust about there!! Chopping within three days. Just watered tonight so want it to take its last sip.

…and the 4x4:

So ready to flip. Three days. Then the Maui tent gets cleaned and the auto, and the four TKxGF/BBD go in there for now so I can flip over the 4x4.

Notes (and future planning):

It’s like most things, you’ll usually always find conflicting claims…

With that, if you dry and cure properly there’s no need for them. I found them to be false prophets with their claims as have others. They are salt based which will strip smell and taste. integra packs have a better following with growers.
Try your own experiments and see how things work for ya.
My thought is why add yet another thing to the list of shit to buy. Growers never used boveda or integra until recent times… plus I don’t want shit touching the buds that I’m going to smoke. I have major trust issues with most companies as they really don’t give a shit about you or yours… I believe the product(s) were made for commercial and dispensary use.

If in a few months your jars are getting to 58% rh then stick them in but I personally wouldn’t. I like my smoke at 58-60% rh with my sweet spot at 59.

I have grove bags but never ended up using them. Burping jars has been more than fine for me.

Thank you Ron! I like to try to do my homework and also am untrusting.

I’ve been going down the rabbit hole a bit. Navigating around some marketing videos as it’s…a marketing video.

I’ll do a deep dive at some point (I’d like to do regular deep dives and think that will happen naturally).

My take away from not but an evening and a morning of some research is that they’re not evil, but they’re also not perfect.

The biggest takeaway seems to be something in line with the Cannatrol in relation to smell being “locked in” and losing that nose hit you’d normally judge a bag or a jar from if blindfolded. Their claim is that the monolayer of purified water is protecting the terps, even helping some develop — same claim on the cannatrol — and that it’s a shift in the way we think.

The salt thing, I’m not as worried about as it’s contained (but that said the packet seems a weak container for something that somewhat resembles spooge with chunky glass shards).

I like to not fuck with nature given the choice and end goals — and just letting it groove/jar along for curing seems a okay to me. Like Ron said, maybe if after a while they’re really low I’d pop a pack or two in. I don’t want to rely on them or use them to steer humidity more than a few %.

Much love and hope the coffee is strong today yall!

Literally a fraction of the cost of cannatrol and to my understanding they came first…
This fridge won’t dry though.

Not a fan of their fridge-a-ma-do-dad. Who knows, but – they aren’t very clear in their language, things like:

Can I set the humidity level inside of my Curidor?
Humidity is not directly controllable on the digital interface but is more easily managed manually inside of the climate controlled unit.

Anywho – sleepy here but got to the 4x4.

GDP5 is a monster (for me, not quite two ladder status, lol – but I’m stoked!):

Thanks for following along y’all. I know these plants aren’t perfect. I’m trying to figure out when to feed/water/etc – but think I’m getting the hang of some things at least a little bit! Tracking helps. Flipping in a few days now. …and top dressing with some Build A Flower (possibly also a little craft blend).

I hear ya, brother. I still prefer jars and burping :+1:.
Figured I’d share since you like these sorta things…
Plants look good. :v:

Thank you :). I hope they’re happy — I’m just happy I haven’t caused any to keel over yet.

I do like my gadgets! I’m an engineer so can’t really help myself — always feel free to share. Might be cool and will always be interesting. Sometimes it will be a thing like the ‘trol, that seems to work very well but good lord the $. Sometimes it will come across like the last one — a bit less confidently backed by good marketing. In any case though, grow on and here’s to a great day!

The Maui is enjoying its last five hours of light before it goes dark for at least a day or so — then it gets the chop!

I’m excited for my first real dry / cure. That little tiny bud didn’t count (but was delicious). It produced three seeds — I am going to hold onto these seeds even though they’re probably sub-par as the plant was a hermie. The smoke was fabulous from that little nug.

It tasted light and sweet. It was also rather effective and it was taken several days ago so I’m excited for this to get chopped and dried and start the cure and the testing :).

If anybody wants any shoot me a message and I’ll share — but understandable if they’re not desired. Not even sure I want them, lol.
