Why is the world freaking out about covid-19, quarantine, cruise ships held out at sea, etc… if it’s not as bad as the flu im confused as to why they would be doing this.

That’s cool, sorry didn’t meant to sound like I was attacking. Just want to remind folk that this quite a bit different than the seasonal flu since that has come up a couple of times.
My advice is simply to pay attention to what actions are being taken around the world and not necessarily what is be told to us today. Decide if some preparation is warranted since a little is better than none.

We just cleaned out the local Walmart of the last 4 N95 masks today (I know - probably a useless exercise but the wife feels better). Scooped up some rubber gloves and hand sterilizer.
Freezer is full. Basically ready to button down. Stores around here have been almost empty of people for 2 weeks.
The GTA is about to get hit and most folks are expecting it.

I noticed at canadian tire they have “n95 masks” but they seem to just be the shitty dust masks I never end up wearing… are they the same thing?

Yup! 3M Cool Flow, basically just a dust mask.
Check Walmart.ca on-line, my wife found a listing for N95 masks… $200.00 a pop!!
Why?? Because they can!!
Like scalpers selling tickets…
