There are now reports coming in that it’s much worse than the flu. Also a lot of reports coming In that it’s not a certain age or race affected

Few noted trends - Babies seem to not be getting the virus at the same rate. Men Seem to be getting it at higher rates

Italy’s numbers are concerning. Nearly half the infected are in serious condition.

When’s the last time they quarantined 20 million people over the flu? Or sprayed the streets with disinfectant, It’s more than a flu. Might or might not be as deadly. True numbers are yet to be determined.

Its all fucked man. Media or whomever pick n choose what they want us to worry about.

Ebola is still very prevalent in Africa and has an 80% plus mortality rate. Cases are still being confirmed as of last week. Similar dormancy as covid-19 at 3-20days.

But no worry at all ?? Im guessing because not too many people leave the congo or travel to the congo?? But none the less, a huge issue that we never hear about.

Point is, huge over reaction IMO. Media fodder

Hope I am wrong. But im willing to bet with in 3-4 months our own country will need volunteers at hospitals.

The flu kills .05 to .1 percent of those infected Coronavirus kills 2.6 percent using China’s bullshit numbers. China’s claim of an R0 (R naught) of 2 and whisper numbers are closer to 6, meaning for every person carrying the virus they will infect 6 other people with it. That’s R6 is closer to what we’re seeing in Korea. If the numbers are low like China has claimed why is a Havard epidemiologist saying 40 to 70 percent of earth population will be infected with the coronavirus?

If China’s numbers are to be believed why has the Canadian government warned us of a “possible” coming pandemic and to be ready for it? Doesn’t that make us a bunch of racists for believing this is more than a flu.

Canadians being told to prepare for a possible novel coronavirus pandemic | Ottawa Citizen

Why is China and Canada saying it can’t be contained if it’s just the flu?

If it’s no worse than the flu why has Iran had 66 confirmed cases and 12 deaths ? That’s a mortality rate of 19 percent not 2.6 not 0.05 to .1 is Iran just unlucky or are they a country filled with old people with pre-existing conditions?

This doesn’t sound like the flu and the numbers show it’s not your ”typical” flu?

From google.

The crows gather together to find out what killed their member. Then, the murder of crows will band together and chase predators in a behavior called mobbing. With some crow species, the yearlings and non-mating adults live in a group called a roosting community.”

Is it the truth? Whose truth? Are you comparing total yearly rates to what amounts to ~1 month? This thing is just getting started (a couple of months) and there is still a lot of unknowns. It is the reason to pay attention to the rate of increase and statistical estimates.

Not at all. Pre-existing conditions is one form of complication placing the patient at higher risk. “Only” is a bold statement.

Current data indicates that is not the case and this one has the potential to eclipse any seasonal flu.

Maybe. Maybe not. What if it isn’t? Why the extraordinary on the ground response?

Some Ebola differences:

  1. common human variant not aerosolized (transmission via fluids and blood)
  2. R0 ~2.0 (lower) for common variant
  3. rapid incapacitation (terminal spread)
  4. no untraceable clusters appearing outside of host countries
  5. effective vaccine currently available
  6. cultural tradition significant basis of spread
  7. not know for secondary infection (e.g. acquired immunity)
  8. asymptomatic transmission is rare.

I saw this once at work, it started with a few squawking in the trees. Within 10 minutes there must have been 1000!

The prices of surgical masks are unbelievable! Some will always find a way to make $$ out of tragedy!

Living in a smokey area when the Cali fires get going, (Nevada) and where earthquakes are common…I keep survival supplies on hand (masks too), and am happy that I don’t have to buy more…Work or not…they surely can’t hurt!

Having a good supply of ISO for cleaning rigs is also a good thing to keep on hand.

I have a lots of masks for our employees, paid $5/box, now the same store sells them for $40/box limit 2 per customer …

Virus are hard to compare, generally if something kills it’s host faster, or more hosts, the less it spreads. If something is less deadly and lasts longer it will spread to more hosts.

If you look at by the numbers in the beginning of February the flu had already killed 10,000 people in the US, if that percentage is applied to the world (I’m some countries are higher than the US) then roughly 225,000 people have died from the flu at about the same time the covid-19 had killed about 1,000.

China has done a good job creating a wall so far without a vaccine.

Sars died out around March-April when cold and flu season dies down. I guess we wait and see =)

EDIT: The 10,000 comes from an article from CNBC that Loki had posted earlier

Here is the location of the CDC data:
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html

For the year 2018-2019, total fatalities due to the flu ~38K. This is for the entire year.

This is NOT the flu, don’t confuse the two.
