I can attest to this.
@Magrowers what size tent and sips are in this picture? How many SIPs in there? 3
5x5 tent. 4 sips. 2 plants per sip, 27 gallon totes
I’m not a fan of anything larger than 1GAL (7"x7"x9") when working with limited space if variety exploration is the goal so neither SIP or “notill” are ideal in my eyes (for that purpose). For example a 30"x30" tent space would allow you to test 16 - 1GAL pots. Modular and smaller footprint setups have so many advantages when working with unknowns and potential instability. That said we all have different requirements and preferences here.
Holy cow! That’s a lot of plants!
Yea and I flipped them a least a week too late. Live and learn. First sip run I used to do DWC so I could move the short plants all together and add some bricks under the 5gal to keep the canopy even.
These sips feel like cheating.
Tent 2 Bodhi soulmate. 1 week after flip
Looking beautiful!
So many questions! Are you able to open the tent on all sides? I made a nifty pvc elbow contraption to help get to the fill tube that’s proved super helpful. Did you plan on notilling?
Soul Mate is definitely on the next seed pop run. Keep us updated on how things progress!
By your attire, I assume you are business in the front, party in the back. Ha!
I got the express written consent from GrassBurner over on RIU to repost his setup. These are 4 gallon.
I apologize if I already asked, but has anyone used the earthbox root and veg options? Any reports on those?
Yep able to open all all sides except for the back. Made sure the the fill tubes and overflow holes were all near the openings and not the center because that would suck.
You can’t really see it but I have tiny dowels in some of the fill tubes that are cut to length. I put some foam on the ends. If they are flush with the top of the tube the tote is empty. I have a line drawn on the dowel that when lines up with the top of the tube it’s full. Easy way to see how how much water everyone is using.
I havent decided on the till/no till yet. I think at least for this first run I am going to till and mix in some build-a-soil craft mix amendment with some worm castings, a dash of dolomite and some lava rock (I have lots of rice hulls in there now). I kinda want to see how the density of the soil is and the moisture at different depths. The grow right now is just Vermont Fort v compost (super heavy) dolomite and rice hulls.
These have been by far the most healthy plants I have grown. They have always looked good in my dwc. But when I defoliate and trim the sap is way stickier. They just “glow” a bit more. Plus this has cut down on my work a ton. This thread has been a great help to me in my sip journey.
I am an accountant. Have grown for 13 or so years. The couple of people who know were super surprised when they found out. I hide in plain sight. Lol.
@magrowers on insta if you want to see my stuff before my SIPs.
Looking good as always, @Magrowers
Thanks @CruJones you really were generous with giving me the AJ sour d cut! Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
I have not. I would like to see one in person, but it’s supposed to hold “ 2 cu ft” of soil and have a 2 gallon reservoir. The dimensions would allow you to pack more in a tent.
Cool! I might have to adopt this. In my EBs I use a piece of bamboo marked at the fill line. In the diy I have a water level indicator tube.
I totally agree on the glow
Are you running airstones? Overflow/air gap?
Here is the pvc elbow contraption I was talking about.
Keep us updated!
Just a simple overflow w air gap.
I have been keeping a nice weekly log in my Apple notes. I figured I would do a “grow journal in a day” when I’m done. Netflix or grow journals.
That’s why I was considering it. The larger water reservoir is attractive to me
This is a nice friendly reminder to myself that I need to take better notes. I have a beautiful hard bound gardeners journal that I need to dig out and put to use.
Edit: found it!
I love my moleskins
Looks like I might have to take a chance on it. I did hear from Pedro grows he didn’t like them as much as the regular earthboxes . However I did dabble and purchased the ac infinity ones just for my mom tent in one gallon pots . Could be easy to run 8 moms in a 2x4 with them.
