I will be running 10gal diy’ers this round, so one plant in each. I have only run one plant in an eb. Unless you run clones of the same plant, one invariably overshadows the other. People do it all the time though! Don’t take my word for it.
I hear that!
My 18 gal sips were not getting moved. The earthbox can be moved but it a pain the the Arse and may lead to a hernia
I went to the 12 gallon DIY sips and they can be moved fairly easily but still a bit heavy/awkward.
Then… The 7.5 gallon SIP was born…
Super small foot print.
Easy to move even when filled but H²O Can be drained to lighten if needed with the overflow tube (Approx 2 gal res).
I am building some more 12 gal today for the outdoor.
I may just have to get a hold of you when I make some more 7.5 gals.
Once you go SIP it’s pretty hard to go back …
Yeah, that’s awesome! Is that 7.5 gallons including the 2-gallon res or no?
Didn’t you do a tutorial somewhere on the DIY SIPS a while back? I feel like I saw that somewhere… I think I may have even bookmarked it haha, I’ll check to see right now.
Nice “Cat on the kit” gif, too. I usually think gifs are pretty dumb, but that one’s funny.
Yep! the tutorial is :
I was growing mostly indoor and moving plants from the Veg room to Flower was a PITA…
This is what led me to experimenting with smaller size SIP’s.
The 7.5 gal were my go to for indoor as I could move them around with ease. My last run outdoor was with a bunch of 7.5 gal also. I do like the larger 10 or 12 gal for outdoor though. I think the large soil volume will assist with root temps and such… IDK… just a hypothesis at this point… Was pretty hot out this last season and all.
It’s more like a 5 gal with the 2 gal res. Remember though a 5 gal SIP is like a 15 gal pot roughly. Definitely getting larger plants in the 7.5’s than my 10 gal pots can produce all things being equal.
As a testament to the power of the SIP the two plants below are clones taken from the same plant (SFV-OG) at the same time and have grown next to each other since. The larger one was up-potted into the sip and the smaller one was just up-potted into a standard 1 gal pot.
I do like me some SFV-OG and could no longer take it so I put the second clone in the 7.5 gal sip two days ago. I can already see the smaller plant is looking better…
I do like me some SIP’s
There is no moving the 40 gal sips without taking the majority of the soil but MURICA! lol. Week 8 on GMOx Chocolate Diesel here
Wow! Thank you and all that have shared here, THIS is my new read and inspiration. Much Appreciation and Respect
Black Triangle, day 4 in the @Maddawg 7.5 gallon.
Looks super healthy @unomas ! Keep us updated on your progress.
Any good deals on a SIP for a 4x4 tent?
Unfortunately earthbox didn’t do a massive sale for Black Friday. They don’t go on sale often , if at all.
It’s a bit of a pain but with a little work you can make one out of a tote for cheap money. You can make the res a little bigger to which is helpful.
Looks like a nice clean setup!
I am on the second grow in the 7.5 gal SIP that I built in that tutorial. (I will try to post pics later). I actually made that 7.5 gal using the info from @CrunchBerries posts. I can tell you that it is my favorite design thus far. Super easy to build. Compared to the other SIP’s I have built. Super clean design. Super easy to get into the SIP to amend/add worm smoothies.
I am a fan of LST and end up tying branches down all over the place so this design is a bit awkward for that but I think I have figured that out. Now I just need a 3d printer …
I have been growing outdoor for a bit so I built a larger 12 gal SIP based off of the 7.5 gal design. I will post pics/DIY Tutorial on that one later also. The 7.5 g is way easier/lighter to move/manipulate and they fit great in a tent.
Can’t wait to hear how your plant responds when the power of that SIP kicks in…
I would 100% build yourself a few 7.5 gal DIY sips. You can easily get 4 or more of em in a 4x4 and customize the size of your reservoir etc… Shart… I will post the DIY for the new 12 gal SIP soon also. You can get 4 of them in a 4x4 tent also. They will grow monsters if you wish also. The 12 gal are a bit heavy to move but you can easily drain a bit of water off to make it easier to move em.
Don’t get me wrong I love the EB’s and what they produce I just hate moving them around or into the flower tent. They take up a bunch of real-estate and are heavy as F. Plus I can build a custom SIP to my specs for less $…Just my .02
I would also suggest checking out @Magrowers monster SIP’s post
Happy growing
I think they do a little deal when you buy 2 or more and the shipping is free. But yeah, no Black Friday deals it seems
Mornin’ Y’all,
I’d like to formally apologize for not updating more on this current grow. Been keeping this one quiet as plant counts are a very real thing. I can tell you that i got skunked on Soul Mate and Lemon Wookie V2, but will most certainly revisit.
This round I’m running and am currently on day 2F. Pictures forthcoming!
- Stardawg Guava x SSDD F1
- Snuggle Funk F1
- Cheech Wizard F2 @nube
- Black Rasberry F1
- Maybe a surprise or two. Wink!
Hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving break! I promise to start updating more on this grow. Until then…
Be good family,
Crunchy
That’s too bad on the Soul Mate. I just had a fantastic sample of that varietal from @Magrowers who looked through a pack and let me try his favorite. Killer dank pine.
I agree! Soul Mate is one strain (of many) that I’m really excited to grow. I loved the sturdy structure and ease of growing. Was super bummed, but I’ll try again soon!
Soulmate is on my list the old soul I got going is some of the most pungent smelling I’ve grown yet some crazy terps on it can’t wait to give it a try I think that pinesoul cut is something special
I need some old school 90’s pine in my life!!
Soul Mate is the shit! I love that strain. Haven’t found a good Old Soul yet.
