Curling leaves after putting mother out to flower

Hello all!

As the title suggests, I have two mother plants that I decided to put out with the others to flower, and they are both showing the same signs of stress. Many of the larger fan leaves have curled, died, and fell off - now reaching the top of the plants.

No other plants (all clones from mothers) are showing any signs of stress.

This is my first time moving mothers outdoors so I’m wondering if this should be expected. I’ve taken probably +50 clones from each while they were still relatively young plants - not sure if that matters, or if they need a little extra time acclimating to direct sunlight.

They also went into the same dirt as the cuttings, Coast of Maine with a couple amendments. I will say, this Coast of Maine dirt has a funk ton of fungus gnats. I’ve had this problem with three separate orders from them, so this will be the last.

Here are a few poorly taken photos:

Lemme know whatcha know!

Did you harden them off? Looks like they got more light and heat than they are used to

I have the same idea like DST

They simply can’t take being placed “directly” outside, even in “subdued light locations”. That “leaf curling” is a natural defensive mechanism. Personally, I open my Garage Doors for several hours during MID-MORNING, lowering them gradually to prevent exposure to the Afternoon Sun. Extending the exposure time over a 7 - 10 day period seems to be sufficient. Good luck, don’t let it get you down, “learning curve” is a good thing. Take care, stay safe and, be well…mister :honeybee:  :100:  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: SPECIAL NOTE: On the “C of M” F-Gnats, I would Email the Company. They’ll probably refund your Money and appreciate the info. Could be improper storage by Seller. I’m from Maine and source locally. They have a very good reputation. That’s what I was figuring. Only thing that had me confused was that the two mother plants went out at the same time as the cuttings from them did. I’m thinking that the cuttings (being newer growth, and less cultured to the artificial light in the grow room) were able to adapt better to the new environment - less set in their old ways.

Hey @misterbee with the sierra natural products, should I look to their 209 and 203 ?
I’ve been using mosquito bits for awhile, but they come back near full force during dry back periods. Everything tells me fungus gnats prefer moist conditions, but it’s suggested to hit them with mosquito bit solution every 3 days to disrupt their birthing rates. While the soil is wet with the solution, they seem to be knocked down a bit, and then during the dry back - well, they be back.

I have beneficial nematodes on the way, but I just want to get this taken care of asap.

…also I don’t mean to talk bad on CoM, it was just my personal hellish experience over the last three years. It could most definitely be the distributor - I went through the same source all three times. I’ll reach out to CoM directly and see what’s what

Thanks again everybody for chiming in!

I would use the SOIL DRENCH first, only because you want to disrupt the Egg-hatching, preventing more infestation. “209” can be used in weekly or Bi-weekly Intervals as a Preventative Measure. I’m not blaming you one bit for you voicing your frustration. I just don’t want to see a Member get a shoddy product, if preventable. Continued success in your efforts, SS/BW…mister :honeybee: :100:  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
