So here’s the deal. I’ve got some plants that should be dry in 4-5 days. I usually wet trim lazy but this time I was extra lazy and there is more leaf than I would like.
If anyone has both a cannabrush and a basting brush and could compare the stiffness of them to give me some idea of what I’m working with it’d be appreciated. Or I’ll just cut it blind and see what happens.
Also, seriously, don’t tell her.
Democracy is your right and you should exercise it. What do you think?
I have a very similar brush that I used to trim my last grow. The fingers on my “Betty Crocker” model are flat instead of round, and the fingers are stiffer/heavier. Seemed to work well, like anything else you develop a “feel” for it.
Comparing it with the actual Canna Brush there is definitely a difference in stiffness.
The Canna Brush is stiffer and the silicon pieces are about 3 times as wide.
That being said, I still think it’s worth trying the basting brush, I don’t even think you’d need to cut it.
However, I have been working on my drying method with your help in another thread, and I will say the Canna Brush is less effective if the plants have dried at 60% humidity as opposed to 50%.
I trimmed 2 plants a couple days ago, and normally I would Canna Brush the whole thing, but I had to pluck the larger leaves off with a gloved hand and there was a lot of back and forth between the brush and me plucking so… it definitely works better with drier bud.
I’d say try the basting brush. It’s easy to clean, just stick it in the freezer and you should be able to knock the trichs off the brush.
Interested to see how that works out for you, good luck man!
Yeah this is what I’m looking for. My bristles are much flimsier.
Thanks for the side by side.
I think this batch will be a bit overdry. For various reasons I don’t have control over my drying space so it is what it is. I will be trying this at lower humidity levels.
Hey man trouble I can handle. I’ve been in trouble many times
This is the first thing that I’ve stolen from my wife in the kitchen ,measuring cups, turkey basters ,measuring spoons .damn anything that I think might be of use I just take it ,she loves it because she gets to go and buy all brand new stuff!
I have this same issue during spring/fall when the weather goes every direction… Sucks to harvest right in the middle of it.
I think this will be a good test honestly.
If the plants are over dry I think that will give you an idea of what peak basting brush performance will look like
If you do cut the brush, I’d take some precautions to make sure you cut the silicon pieces as flat as possible. Maybe use an exacto Maybe even try it without cutting them first.
My humidity fluctuates with the weather but in this case the issue is that: I have 2 bathrooms. One in the bedroom and one on the other side of the apt. The one in the bedroom, if I run the exhaust, drops the tent humidity by a few points. The second bathroom is the drying room.
The problem is that both the bathrooms share the same exhaust fan so I can’t have control over the humidity in the tent and in the bathroom at the same time.
When the MMHs are dry it will be time to chop the sativas but for now tent dryness is more important than drying room humidity.
We will see what happens with this brush. I will keep y’all posted.
If it doesn’t work I’ll have either leafy smoke or leafy hash pile additions. Either way is good with me
You cut the red betty crocker one to stiffness. this is the one with flatish blades.
You can cut it an an angle to use the different parts.
The smaller round basters can be cut at an angle for fine trimming.
This will only work with dry dense bud.
This old video on a sativa too lazy to make a new one. I’d use the grey round baster brush next time.
Ignore the S1 Easter egg it dropped.
I have yet to try this, but in researching the silicone brush tek, I have seen a few people recommend blasting the drying weed with very dry air for an hour or two before trimming to make the outer leaves more crispy and fragile, makes sense to me
Here’s a few brushes I’ve been eyeing from the cheapest source I know of for kitchen stuff (really, the commercial stuff is so cheap for the quality):
These are silicone:
This one’s stiff PTFE fibers, which sounds interesting:
