i agree twice
No way, dude! If it was summertime, Iād probably be in there naked. Used to do that all the time at the old house. Itās just too cold to be gardening in the nude right now, even after a hot-ass shower. Iām glad I got back to the whole āshower before you waterā routine, though, shoulda never strayed. But I got cocky (no pun intended).
I may DM you about this in the next few weeks or months. Not the āonly wearing a mask and glovesā part haha, but the āinoculating mushroom jarsā part. I bought Paul Stametās book āGrowing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushroomsā a while back, havenāt read it yet. Itās long haha. But after I do, I may still have a few questions for you. If you donāt mind.
Congrats on the kids, too. Glad I donāt have anyā¦ haha.
I really donāt think thatās something Iām ever gonna do. I see people do that all the time in their grow logs, but I donāt wanna do that. Whenever I chop, Iām just glad to be done and get moving on to the next stuff. I dunno. But if that C. Gold #1 turns out amazing, I may be popping some more seeds sooner rather than later. Maybe not, though. I thought Iād do the same if the Mexican Melons turned out amazing and even though they did, I donāt wanna grow any more of that for a while. All I been smoking for like four months. Which is fine haha, I love it, but I wanna get to the new shit.
I got those Skycuddler seeds from speakeasy, seems like theyāre always available. I just really cannot do that whole āmonitoring IG to see about the latest drops that sell out in five minutesā thing at all. I dunno why. I just canāt.
I wonāt.
Haha.
Yeahhhhh, fuck all that haha!!! Honestly, Iād never had an issue before, I really do think it was because I was letting Bowie into the grow room. I did read something from two years ago about how CA was on the verge of being overrun with aphids, but I think they were talking about outdoor grows. But, I mean, if theyāre outdoors, odds are good that theyāre gonna get indoors, too. In any event, yeah, why not shower? Iām gonna do it every night (most nights haha) before bed anyway.
I always wondered that with you, though, riding your bike to the grow. Thatād make me slightly nervous. But I always figured healthy soil, healthy plants. I dunno. Maybe my soil isnāt any goodā¦ haha.
Yep. Fuck the Braves, thrice.
my house is surrended in aphid ridden shruberies, powdery mildew on everything, roaches, i allllways had bugs in my grows, and mold, and i still never gave up hahaā¦ now i just assume powdery mildew, mold and bugs are coming so iām defensive instead of being clean and carefulā¦ my grow is in the slummiest fucking neighborhood, trash piled up around the building like crazy, human shit, ratsā¦
Not a problem. If you need a spore print, Iām sure I can get one to you also.
Looking good in there @minitiger im in a similar boat trying to keep up with watering right now, one plant in the tent seems to need it every other day, and the others, while not showing signs of really needing water donāt mind the extra, but im literally sitting here as I type this having neglected to water today, putting it off till lights on tomorrow. Those DE crosses look good, I tried to grow some DE x Temple Kush crosses from a local breeder a year or so ago and I could not keep up with them indoors, ended up chopping them and going with a little lower maintenance plant for the outdoor run, they jumped up seemingly over night and just could never get enough food/water, always looked sad. The Energy in Dragon Energy must just mean āhungry and thirsty as shit all the timeā curious to see what they can turn out if you can keep up with them though. Keep up the good work!
@minitiger Ha, ha youād freak out in my grow spaceā¦ itās a junkyard, but at least I can feed my plants anytime!
Your BHās are looking great, really great!
I love when plants do this sexy spiral.
I mean, I usually have at least three different strains growing, one or two or three females of each. Watering them every-other-day just seems to work best. Iām not gonna try to remember which plants are drinking less or more and try to water accordingly. The ones that donāt seem as thirsty, maybe Iāll water them with a little less, but in general, I think itās fine. I feel like itās pretty difficult to truly overwater a cannabis plant, unless youāre just drenching with a shitload of water every single day or something.
But only watering every third day really isnāt working, especially right now, when the flowers are starting to develop and everything. I canāt be doing that anymore.
I actually saw it haha, yesterday or two days ago. I didnāt know you had a grow log here until you posted that link in the Bodhi thread, so I checked it out. And yes, I was freaking out haha.
@minitiger itās looking great! Really appreciate being able to see your grow. Lots of great information.
I planted five of Doc Dās Ancient OG x Dragon Energy on December 11, just because I ended up with so much sorta Sativa-dominant stuff with the seeds I planted on October 1. The Imperial Majesty seeds I planted all turned out male, only ended up with one Skycuddler Kush femaleā¦ I prefer Sativa-dominant strains, but I also need some kinda counterpoint, if for no other reason than I donāt think I wanna be smoking frigginā Bandaid Haze before bed haha. Anyway, took these pics last night, veg day 37.

AOG x DE #3:
AOG x DE #4:
AOG x DE #5:
I dunno if you can see, but theyāre all very light green. Iām not sure if thatās a genetic thing or what, but I watered them with a compost tea last night. When I shut the tent this morning, about six hours after watering them with the tea, they looked like theyād grown like fifty percent, which I know isnāt possible haha, but they did look like they were starting to take off. Still light green, though. Iāll watch them for the next couple days and if they continue to look like that, Iāll probably foliar with some Neptuneās fish and kelp.
Also, I transplanted all of them into five-gallon pots last Sunday, January 8, without knowing the sex on any of them, straight from the solo cups into the bigger pots, which isnāt something Iāve ever done before. I usually do a couple weeks in half-gallon pots in between the solo cups and the flowering pots and wait for sex to show, but I plan on flipping them in a week (eight days, technically), at day 45, which is a little shorter veg than I usually give my plants, but Iām kind of in a time crunch here. So weāll see what happens.
Iām also not gonna top them, which Iām actually pretty stoked about. I donāt ever not top my plants, but again, because of the short veg and everything, Iām just gonna let these ride. I always love seeing peopleās pics of their untopped plants, though, so thisāll be pretty cool, I think. Plus, these are getting flowered in my 3x3 veg tent and I donāt want them getting too bushy. Iād rather they grow up than out.
Anywayā¦
I swear a bead of sweat fell down my forehead as I read this. You dare risk not topping your plants?!?! Bold move my friend, good luck.
(Just kidding )
But I was going to ask if you were topping them
How tall is your tent?
Seven feet, same height as the 5x5. Itāll be fine. If I can flower those Bandaids in a seven-foot tall tent, the AOG x DE will be no problem haha.
Haha, yeah, I dunno, I just kinda wanna let them do their thing. I actually think topping them would be better for yields, like specifically for this cross, but Iām not too worried about yields with these plants. And I have a feeling Iām gonna get at least four females outta those five seeds. I donāt know why, I havenāt even checked for pre-flowers yet, just a feeling I have. Four females, topped, in that tent would be pretty tight.
I just wanna do a quick āveg day 37 pre-compost tea/veg day 39 post-compost teaā side-by-side comparison here, using the day 37 pics I posted two days ago.

Etc etc etc, you get the idea. This whole notion that compost teas are pointless or whatever is nonsense. Iāve seen the explosive growth that happens almost immediately after watering with one with my own eyes, every single grow. Not to sound too hippy-dippy, but I can feel it after I water with one. The plants start āhumming.ā I mean, itās entirely possible that it just took all of the plants nine days to recover from being transplanted and the tea had nothing to do with it, but I really doubt it. Iāve seen it time and time again, where the plants just kind of feel like theyāre not growing the way they should; water with a compost tea and they take off almost immediately. Iāll always use them. I donāt give a fuck what the latest little Online Organic Guru says.
Anyway, yeahā¦ Fungus gnats have shown up, watered with some Gnatrol and added an extra sticky trap to each pot last night. Hopefully they wonāt get too bad. When I watered with the aforementioned compost tea, some of the compost ended up on top of the mulch, which I knew was gonna be a problem. I didnāt think the gnats would show up quite as fast as they have, but whatever. Theyāre there. Iām not too worried about. Theyāll be gone soon.
All of the AOG x DE plants are still looking a little light-green, even after the tea. Iām pretty convinced, at this point, that itās just a genetic thing, but Iām also still considering a little Neptueās fish and kelp foliar. If I do it, itās gonna be in the next day or two. Also switched to 14/10 today, gonna flip in a week, maybe. I dunno. I feel weird giving them such a short veg haha! Itāll be before February 1, though, for sure.
Gosh, the difference is striking. Absolutely clear they are doing much much better on day 39. Of course determining causality can be tough but, seems like quite a coincidence otherwise. Your grow is looking great!
I agree, itās impossible to know for certain without some sorta side-by-side control group. But the anecdotal evidence makes it pretty apparent that compost teas are vital in an ROLS situation. Or in my ROLS situation, anyway haha. In a no till, probably not. It shouldnāt be, anyway; thatās the whole point of no till. But yeah, it seems to me that the plants are never gonna do as well as they would without a compost tea once theyāre in their flowering containers. I donāt think more than one is necessary. In fact, I think more than one could possibly be detrimental, just because it might throw the microbe populations or whatever all outta whack for a few days, but one application is a must, in my opinion. Iāve definitely waited and waited, thinking,āMaybe I can skip it this timeā¦ā (I really hate cleaning the brewer haha) in past grows, but I always break down and do it and I always notice the difference in growth almost immediately.
I think itās pretty cool.
Plus, I spent like eighty bucks on my brewer, might as well use it haha.
And Iāve now typed the word ābrewerā so much that Iāve reached the point where Iām like,āIs ābrewerā the right word? Is that even a word???ā haha.
Yeah the difference is pretty noticeable there. Iām gonna bust out my brewer and make a batchā¦ what did you put in the brew? EWC? Humic? Compost? I try and keep mine simple usually.
lol, semantic satiation ā¦ I have been getting that a lot recently. I donāt know if itās because Iāve been getting really high, or what, but Iāll be repeating certain words to myself and then start questioning if they even exist.
Dude! Seriously! Iāll start typing something and then search, like, the phrase or word or whatever to see if what Iām typing is what I mean. Like ācontrol groupā in the last post. I googled that shit, even though I know exactly what the fuck that means. But I was like,āControl group? Is that right?ā
Maybe itās the way the planets are aligned right now or something. Like, weāre in the āDumb Moon Phase, with Mars in Stupid,ā or whatever.
Five-gallon bucket, four gallons of water, 1.5 cups of compost and 1/3 cup molasses. I actually added a pinch of alfalfa (and I mean a pinch, whatever I grabbed with my thumb and my middle finger), just because alfalfa seems to be the one additive or whatever that doesnāt delay microbialā¦ Division? Multiplication? Growth? I donāt even know the right word right now haha. Gawddamn Mars in Stupidā¦ Anyway, yeah, according to Tim at microbeorganics.com, alfalfa is fine to use, as long as itās a tiny amount.
Brewed it for 27 hours (woulda waited a few more hours, but it was 1am at 27 hours), watered, everything is looking great. The compost I used is pretty old, too. I ordered some āfungal compostā (whatever that means) from KIS a while back, just checked my notes and the first and only time I used it in an AACT before two nights ago was on November 6, well before I even planted those Ancient OG/DE seeds. Which means I got it early-November. Who knows how long itād been sitting at the KIS warehouse or whatever? Still, it seems to be okay. I wish I had access to truly fresh compost or EWC, though.
Just as an aside, I had that little half-gallon bag of KIS fungal compost sitting on the table in my grow room for a while, next to the dry erase board that I never use. Went in there one night tripping my balls off on shrooms and noticed like four fungus gnats clustered on the board, right next to the little bag of compost. Freaked out and put it in the garage. Iāve spent the last, like, two months wondering if I really SAW fungus gnats. But Iām certain they were there. I think. Iāve never just straight-up seen something that wasnāt there. Trails, yeah. Little dots and colors and breathing floors and walls, sure. But Iām certain I didnāt hallucinate four fungus gnats on a dry-erase board.
The compost seems pretty good, is my point haha.
i agree about the teas, i like to let my pots get really dry if i see funky leaves or slow growth, rule out the overwatering, then water 'em slow and heavy and boom, works everytime
i just throw 5 cups of premade dr. earth top dress in 5 gallons of water and wait overnight, no straining no bubbling, if the pots are still moist and the tea is ready i put it in the fridge before it turns rancid
But thatās just a nutrient tea, though. Compost tea is something different.
