You know I’ve been using a led/315 combo since Forest showed me how to build a Quantum board. Works for me, and not a lot of other things do, ha ha!

Yes i seen a good few grows by Marcus now running just the CDM on its own and he grows nice bud. But i can fit the 2 small LED in room one on each side and what with reading up on it a a little bit :joy:it sounded a good combo to use, so I’m on it. Rome weren`t built in a day hey Horsey. Cheers mukka. .

So two plants have been topped twice and other just topped once and those tops i used for cuttings . I will flip them to bloom once they get over topping session and they have their pZazz back. Jobs a good en

So these were flipped last night so were on week one of bloom. I did notice a slightly looking pale look in-between leaf margins and a dead bit of scabby looking shit on one, so I’ve put it down to they need more ferts so what with flipping which is when i generally raise ferts a bit while plants are stretching, ill just be upping them a little bit more than usual. Jobs a good en.

I love to see folks pushin’ up those watts per sq ft numbers with hps/etc.
I’m in the “not that impressed with LED” camp. I think 25 years of HID should have shown me the way but I got hung up “keepin’ up with the joneses” and bought too many panels…LOL. Now I’m goin back to HID. I need the heat and I’m tired of seeing all of those lime green/pale/stressed/“give em Cal-Mag” plants. The pictures today of folks gardens are so whack at times. I just cringe.

But there I go again on a tangent. What I came to say was it would serve you well to dump the wing reflectors and slap those bitches in cool tubes. They are SO cheap now that everyone has gone to LED. I just bought 2 for $25 each…and thay are the big ones that are 27" long. Back in the day those were an easy $150… Just a thought. Makes it easier to slam that heat out of the room.etc.

But good show…both of yaz…

Yes i here you about LED I’ve always been HPS grower for as long as yourself and nearly every time i do LED thing i always go back to HPS at some point, but this grow i swapped out for 2 small led panels and 315watt CDM/CMH in middle for that full color spectrum, well it was last grow i started wit that light array. Thinking im sticking with it atmo but i do like CDM light too cus it kicks out heat to warm room during winter months.

No need for a cool tube really, i manage temps soundly. So jobs a good en their man.

Cheers mate.

I should have been more specific. It’s @Cummings420 who needs the cool tube upgrade. Yer set up looks dialed in nicely. I like the dual system approach.

I’m raising my HLG v-specs up to the top of the tent and am gonna run the hps’s under them. IF I decide I just can’t grow without the LED panels or see I am lacking on “frost”……I can easily put them back into play.

Thanks for sharing guys…

Yes @Stiickygreen i used to run with LED & HPS combo for that fuller light spectrum myself, grew me some nice buds too. The CDM/CMH bulbs are a way fuller spectrum than LED by looks of it to me so that along side LED is a win win hopefully.

Point of interest you can buy 600 watt CMH/CDM bulbs to run in a e27 fitting on a 600watt HID/HPS ballast and shade as well, but they only work right on older magnetic HID ballasts, they are no good on a digital type ballasts. Saves cash buying the full CDM light set up if peeps go that route.Think Horsey was on about switching using his old HID ballast if he can a 400CDM/CMH bulb to run on them.

I here you about @Cummings420 grows needing cool tubes ill go with that as well. .

Thanks for that info. I have a few digis but I pulled out the ancient Hydrofarm 1000 watt ballasts so I think I’d be golden if I wanted to upgrade my lamps. I dug around in my old junk (LOL) and found 2 new Hortilux hps lamps and some older lamps. At the very least I’m gonna run a MH and HPS together in the same space to grab that full spectrum. Any specific brand of lamps you migrate to for cMH/etc. or are the cheaper lamps on the same PAR. (LOL)

I go with 315 Philips bulbs all the way but the cheaper option would be Maxibright for me after a recomendation from a friend who sometimes uses them. Thats if i could call them a cheaper option, tbh theirs not much in the price they are quite expensive bulbs.

CDM/CMH/LEC are all same lighting just different terminology i guess. Tis very much old tec that was used way back in 80`s to grow weed.

I thought “the 80’s” was a bit too old for this technology so I took a peek. The CMH was being played with in labs in the 80’s but didn’t hit the commercial market until 1994. I remember the interest and that some switched over/etc. but I just kept doing the old dinosaur thing cus it was working and I was running too hard to stop for adjustments. Now I might have to take a closer look.

Thanks for the memory jog. (what’s left of it…LOL)

Yes indeed i here that for sure .

You know I like the Philips 315’s, but I’m trying these now. About 1/2 the price, and seem just as good.

Maybe it’s just they’re having a sale… I’d better stock up

I’m thinking of getting a 400w HPS to run in the winter with a digital ballast that I can run outside the grow space. I’d never thought of the Calmag issue that @Stiickygreen mentions but when I used to grow years ago with HPS even in Coco I’d never heard of Calmag, now I’m told it’s a Coco growing necessity.

At the moment my led is plugged into the wall with one of those 15 min pin analogue timers. When I used HPS in the UK I used a contactor relay but here people seem to plug 600w straight into the timer in the wall. I asked at the hydro shop about contractor relays and said surely it’s going to weld the pins in the timer shut and the guy looked like he’d never thought about it. Are they not needed with Digi ballasts now? I think the plants like the golden glow and warm dry heat from HPS. LEDs and just cheaper to run.
