Dumme's Aero-Soil-Aquaponics adventure

No sprayers. It’s lower pressure feed line. Simple RDWC system, with oversized PVC return line as its aquaponics.

That is correct. Johnny5 used 10 fish total, 6 buckets.

So you are just pumping water in on the top and returning it to the aquarium in the bottom…

Recirculating deep water culture usually has aeration in each bucket… is that right?

BTW what about different needs of plant in different stages (e.g. phosphorus in bloom)…?

Yup, I have to double check, but I think he’s using an active aqua 110lpm airpump split to each bucket.

Very impressive my man! I salute you.

I imagine you’re doing water changes every-so-often in the fish tank though, right? I had an aquaponic-style fish tank many years ago, and mineral build-up in the water was really the only problem I ever had, but maybe my water was much harder than yours.

@oranje,
This new system is I think about 2 years now; no water changes. It’s approximately 5500L. I measure & control many of the elements within the system.

.and on the same day too :frowning:

That is always a sick feeling. :disappointed:

I’m thinking of changing my swirl into secondary livestock tanks, and then beefing this design up, and giving it a go for my filtration.

Im also thinking of using my 5100gph pump, which currently pushes all my sprinkler heads & filters, and instead just using it to circulate the filtration, then designing fogponics for the remaining 2 rooms in the works, possibly all three.
https://youtu.be/bb7EeJytbPw
It’s an expensive change in my design, and would take quite a bit of work on my behalf, so I’d love some feedback on it before I make any final decisions. My system works fine, and I don’t really need to change, but I like the idea of keeping things fresh, and cutting edge.

I’d no longer be low pressure aeroponics, instead I’d be aquaponic-soil-fogponics
What do you guys think, should I jump?

5500L, eh. My little plant-quarium had about 40L, and I had to top off with 10% each week  On a sadder note, my condolences on the loss of your piece, RIP.

Putting aside that having state-of-the-art system in your hands can be value in itself :microscope:, I wonder what benefits could it have…

Foggers against LPA… do you think that it could grow a bit faster or what benefits do you expect?

I like to achieve pure white roots which is hard in aquaponics. From what I’ve seen of others, fogponics can do this in conjunction with aquaponics. I might try it with 1 room to start, for a test. I’ll keep the current plumbing for a backup.

It would also take the bulk of the workload off the single pump I have pushing all the sprinkler heads. Snail shells are my number one issue right now. Although they’re a sign of a healthy system, they end up clogging up my sprinkler heads daily. It’d be nice not worrying about them constantly.

Aquaponic-fogponics with soil. …first look (still under construction).

Fog chamber(root zone)

Thanks for update @Dumme, it looks amazing! So how do you like it? What are your first impressions… ?

No more problem with snails and healthier roots? :snail:

What type of ultrasonic foggers do you use for this scale?

I know its been a while since I’ve updated. I almost moved locations twice this year, and college is kicking my butt.

There’s about 31.5ft³ within each chamber. I went with the largest mist maker House of Hydro makes, for each chamber. About $450US each, so pretty pricey. I’ve been told about 3 gallons per hour. It’s a bit too early to tell how well they’ll work yet, but I’ll be updating as they grow.

Super quiet compared to the low-pressure aero. No more snails problems, yay!

450 bucks … wow!

Is it this one?

So basically each chamber holds 5 plants?

Yes sir, that’s the one.

Yes, each row consists of a 10 foot culvert, with 5 plants.
