Thank you
I remember you had that done. It is nice when you can sit back and enjoy the grow.
Those big beds give you enough soil to last. You plan on doing anything extra, or see how this turns out?
Just going to ride it out and see. Next round I hope to up foliar game a bit.
Cool. I have looked at the large bag set ups. I was thinking a 2 x 2 in one of my 3 x 3 tents.
I have some extra 480w led. Turn it down to around 75%
Yes! I agree about the water coming out. I also think soil tends to like compact and clog the pours or something and they can be easy to over water. I have also used large rain science beds, and when they came out of the boxes they had to air out for a few days. The plastic smell was terrible which I really didn’t like.
What I have done with large fabric pots and beds (this might work for your smaller pots) is to take some plastic and wrap the top 2/3 or 3/4 leaving a little room at the bottom so you still get the advantage of root pruning. This helps keep the moisture in a little longer and reduces some of the water and soil run off out of the sides.
That’s my stoned rambling anyway lol.
Ah sweet have some reading material tonight b my homie throwing up a new thread!
That is a good idea. Will have to try that. Hold of a plastic pot, benefit of the mesh.
My money is in the earth box! Ease of use watering wise hands down EB! Looking forward to the results!
Great thought there @PlantShepherd iv thought of something similar but using something like Tyvek those grassroots pots that have a water protection barrier with a smart pot type are something i have my eye on but From my looking around Most places are Sold out of them.
Ron I’m going to drop a video on ya that you might enjoy it’s by Leighton Morrison from future cannabis project that’s using smart pots like a sip type of container!
I do believe the box will be easier, and a better yield. The question is, will it yield twice as much to account for taking up the equivalent space of 2 7 gallon pots.
Been using the rain science stuff for several years. I haven’t experienced those problems but I’m mainly using amended ProMix peats or peat mixes. What are you guys using for a media?
Self made organic soil. I had the same problem with airpots if you let them dry out a little too much, when you watered them it would run out the sides and not go down. We also did identical greenhouses, one with rain science beds and one with grass roots fabric beds. I liked the grass roots beds better (for large notill soil beds).
We also did side by sides with small rain science pots, fabric pots and airpots. The airpots did the best as long as you kept them watered properly, but in a commercial setting the fabric pots won out with the rain science pots being last.
I am using amended organic soil. The Rainscience did better for me when I didn’t have to travel so much. Stay on top of the watering, but still have some loss.
The junior box has worked well so far.
Here is a small comparison. Both plants are clones from the same mother. The one in the 5 gallon plastic pot was bigger to start and went in the pot 5 weeks prior ro the Earthbox. It started in flower 3 weeks sooner too.
This was on October 29th. 5 gallon platic pot
This plant had been in flower for over 5 weeks
Here is the Earthbox plant. Same day. In veg for a few days, then went to flower 2 weeks earlier
Good to know, the vids Iv come across and from what Iv learned from other sources is that with Organics with microbes one of the major contributors of excessive run off is when the pots dry out and so do the microbes, as a survivor mechanism microbes excrete there glues which coats the the media and makes it hydrophobic and more difficult to re wet even with rewetting agents
To help even up the game as for watering @Old-Ron maybe run that covercrop to help protect it like the cover on your EB!
I’ll tune in for this. I only grow in SIP’s and I love them. I haven’t used EB before because I can’t get them here but something very similar.
I have no doubt the EB will take the trophy ( hope I dont have to eat my words later )
Today I added 1 gallon to the Earthbox reservoir.
Watered the bag with half gallon of water.
The water had some cal/mag, Orca and King Crab added.
Added 2 cups of rice hulls to the Rainscience bag to help with moister evaporation.
The Earthbox has the plastic "mulch cover "
The Earthbox still seems to have a lot of water in it, I could see drying spots on the soil of the Rainscience bag.
I cleared some of the other plants out of the tent to give some more room.
