Electrostatic Sprayer / Mister / Fogger

Hey.

Ever since @CanuckistanPete shared that he’s been using HOCl (Hypochlorous Acid) I’ve been looking into it, even realized I’d heard of it a few years ago.

What is it: LINK
Eg. from a supposedly pioneer in the tech: LINK

Anyway, this led to me “electrostatic sprayers”, for the application of disinfectants etc. But I can’t find that many options, I mean I thought I’d see more, and they’d be more available.

Does anybody use these? Do you have some more suggestions for options?

I’ve come across a few mentioned in this video:
LINK

Gonna tag a couple guys I’ve seen mention these: @Jetdro @herojuana.tom @Pawsfodocaws @Northern_Loki

Note: Some potentially useful info (charts on EPA certifications, “testing” etc. can be found on the website for the Emist brand of elctrostatic sprayer. LINK.
One concern is that there’ll be brands releasing basic sprayers/foggers that don’t actually properly integrate/use the electrostatic technology or approach properly.

Thanks for any input.

Edit: Oh, and can you share the brand and model of electrostatic sprayer you’ve used, if you have. And if not, what fogger you might use. Thanks.

Thanks @Pawsfodocaws. I’ll need to try and find some more reviews and feedback on the Ryobi stuff; haven’t heard much good about them.
I’m also considering the “Victory” brand, who’ve been around for a while I think.

Yea. I wouldn’t wanna pay $400 cad for the Ryobi.

Maybe not the bundle but ryobi makes great gear. We have tons of electric tools from them. 30 bucks is cheap just for the sprayer

I’d buy one for the cad equivalent of that, for sure.

Right on man

Why is this better for pest sprays than just a normal hand sprayer with a trigger to pull?

coverage is better

I ended up getting one of these, seemingly new, for 40 bucks off craigslist. Its pretty rad, has 4-5 different spray nozzles for different droplet sizes. Saves lots of pumping :joy:

I have been using this fogger in my grow room and orchard for years now. It’s the low end of the commercial models.

These are excellent for complete coverage of anything you need to spray on your plants. I use it for pest control, foliar feeding and, more recently Hypochlorous, along with ozone to sterilize my room between grows. Once you use one you won’t want to be without it.

I use an older version of this. Changed spraying from drudgery to no big deal

Nice one, man. Good share, thanks.
Would you mind testing something out with it? The electrostatic function. If you dont, try spraying it at an object from single, stationary position, and see it it “wraps around” to adhere the opposite side. Spray a metal pole, or a gallon jug, or coffee tin or something.

Nice. So you find you’re able to spray oil based stuff with that one? If so, that’s good. The ULV sprayers are not fit for anything other than water soluble stuff (ie: no suspensions, oils, strong acids or bases, etc. So no wettable sulfur).
Looks like you have a “fogger”. Different than a sprayer, mister, ulv, from what I understand so far.

Cool. I saw a video for that one. You like it, hey? What kinda distance do you get from it? Would it be suitable for, say, an 8x4 tent canopy, or would that take to long/too much canopy for that?

Thanks.

Cool, comes with static-strap wristband for electrostatic function.
Yea, curious if you’ve tested the electrostatic function.

I do like it. It has 2x speeds. I pull each plant, and do them individually at the lowest speed, so I really can’t say about an 8 x 4, though if it’s 8’ wide x 2’ deep, and not packed, it ought to be possible. Probably want to cover any electricals.

@VAhomegrown turned me on to it, maybe he’ll see this bat signal

Yep, good observation. I spray dormant oil on all the fruit trees every year to smother the bugs. Oils, wettable powders and solutions, no worries.

It’s also really economical in usage, holds 32 oz but I rarely mix that much at a time. 8 oz pretty much covers my small orchard of mature fruit trees.

Thanks for sharing, guys.

I have one or two things on the way to try out.

That’s cool it works for wettable powders (sulfur works, I guess). You make sure to shake real often when/if you apply wettable sulfur with it? I’m surprised something as fine as a fogger will work with sulfur powder.

I put a new link in the first post, very bottom. It’s a short discussion on sprayers for cannabis and issues with current method, by Future Cannabis Project.

EPA studies on Electrostatic Sprayers.

Data lovers, have a look if you care to. I’m interested in thoughts on this.

It probably won’t, or at least I wouldn’t try it. The micronized sulfur I get is not completely soluble. I just let it sit in a jug of water for a few days, then strain the undissolved sulfur out. Unstrained, the sulfur clogs my garden sprayers, so no doubt it would mess up a fogger.
