FieldEffect's Attempt to Grow Indoors

I don’t know if my brain is ready either. I’m bumbling along trying to get this hydro/indoor thing going.

Of course it takes most of my time so I easily lose track of what everyone else is doing. Gotta learn a bit better balance there.

Cheers buddy :slightly_smiling_face:

The tent needed 2 hours of work this morning - started 4:30am it’s now 6:30am. Giant bag of leaves, cannabis and basil for the compost pile.

First, the flower side is growing ridiculous. I got the filter outside yesterday afternoon, which has turned out quite successfully. Because I’m an opportunist idiot, I opted to do this in the middle of the dark cycle because I knew this morning I’d be occupied doing trimming. So yesterday afternoon I seized my spare hour and did it. Closed the blinds in the room, turned off all lights and cut the filter out in the dark. Closed the tent back up and proceeded as normal, with I’d say about 30s of low-level total light exposure in the middle of the dark cycle. So I knew this morning I’d be cleaning my mess, rehanging the light and doing some work on the plants.

The words of @tamimes kept going through my head “don’t grow plants grow bud on a stick” and “don’t be afraid”

Been removing foliage and branches, and pinching long nodes (without snapping over sideways). Definately quite different feel depending on the plants but it’s becoming natural to me. I do think I hesistate to cut growth from the plants I prefer, I treat them with more kid gloves not wanting to cut as much. But I tried to steel my will and clip away independent of the plant in question.

Before:

Here’s my favorite ladies, left-to-right they are N3, N4, S1 all on day 24F.

N4 flower:

S1 flower:

N3 flower:

Anyway, big pile of weed salad left, light re-hung, and I think the flower side is happy. I added the Solo cups to the party

per @tamimes advice yet again. Excited to receive tips from the SOG wizard :mage:

Here’s how it looks closing it up for the day (their night):

Veg side also a time consuming trim operation. The Romulan cuts still not showing roots. day 14. I still hold some faith they will come through. Gave them a spritz of foliar.

Here’s the chaos before I got to work:

And after:

Anyway, pretty happy with this for another week of growth. Things are settling into a groove. I couldn’t have done it without the help along the way. It definately wouldn’t be looking as good. :cowboy_hat_face:

Even at this point, growing multiple plants, especially from crosses I made, I can see parts of the influence from the parents. Trends. Cool. It’s coming full circle now.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

I’m thinking she’s going to get a run outside, see what the desert does for her!

Thanks @MissinBissin :sunglasses:

Bent over the highest 3 colas so I could lower the light a bit, recommended to me. We’re now pretty uniform at 1500umol for the high area of canopy and the small Solo cups are measuring about 500-600. Today at work I’m going to fabricate a sheet aluminum stand to lift them an additional 2" or so which will still allow them some irrigation.

Seems a bit harsh but I have put my fear on the sidelines.

Veg side still no Romulan roots but the Mom’s are happy with their haircuts yesterday :sunglasses:

Now there’s a morning Smile! Nearly spit out my Coffee @FieldEffect :coffee:

Happy Day in the Tent !!! Great Stuff

We’ll see tomorrow morning how things have reacted I’ll probably add the booster platform for the Solo challenge tonight when the lights come on.

I could lower the light a bit but there’s a tradeoff much below it’s current position. The lenses require a few inches to allow them to cast light on the tent edges

I was putting together a Digikey order last night for some other things, I looked at 50cm light strips I could put on all the edges. 4 on the roof poles, 4 on the border of the flood table, and 4 on the vertical tent poles. Excessive? Surely

What’s another 100W? Going to think about it before I pull the trigger but that would have this 2x2 rocking ridiculous DLI. The next run would be an experiment in how far a 2x2 can be pushed :cowboy_hat_face:

Cheers @MissinBissin happy to see your Zamaldelica is chopped and hanging. Meant to write you a note last night but I got carried away looking at 3000K LED strips

Cheers to your busy schedule @FieldEffect, and I appreciate the thoughts…
Love all that light spilling out of your world as you chase those shadows

In-line with your Early-rise schedule, I made sure I got OUT early this morning. Like you Fishermen… I got lucky and caught a Lite-Jogger as they trotted along the shoreline… Made it kind of extra funky

Hope you Enjoy! And Yep, we had snow last nite. Taken from the Tip of Point Edward, looking due North up Lake Huron

That’s an awesome picture. Early morning and sunset are my favorite times of day. Early morning particularly is more desolate of people, and it’s easy to just exist. Watching, contemplating.

In the summer it will be my time of tending the garden before the scorching heat sets in. Before the wife or kiddo wakes up. My appreciation for the morning grows with my age, but I’ve always been a morning person.

Looks like a great place for a spliff of something energetic to get the day moving.

All is well in the tent. Tops seem to be handling the 1500umol with aplomb, flowers are really starting to develop on the smaller plants, and the solo cups are elevated 2" where they’ll still be getting some irrigation but as high as reasonably possible.

Shot with 0.5x zoom looking down

N4, my favorite, little side bud

And the Solo cup challenge participants on their newly-constructed platform

The maintence of the hydro solutions is becoming very second-nature and intuitive.

Cheers guys! Have a great day. :slightly_smiling_face:

So glad to hear about this Balance you’ve found amongst the Chaos.

Its certainly showing-up in your images.

And I’m just Stoked about the Bahia Black Head… have a great day @FieldEffect

Those bigger plants are praying too hard. I know you have a situation with plant heights, but that’s going to cause an issue.

Can you explain? I assume it means the lights are a little TOO much?

Thanks man!

Yep. A bit of upward angle is called praying and means they are happy, but when they are pointing that hard it means they are getting too much light. The short stemmed leaves around the colas will lay really flat and the mids to tips will attempt to point upward. Like if you flattened out your palm and curled your fingertips a little.

An oscillating fan might help. Height restrictions suck.

ACInfinity upgraded their s6 oscillating fan to 24/7 run time and they’re mad strong too.

I’ll get some circulation going this weekend. I actually have an S6 just is huge in the 2x2. I’ll put it up and get one of the updated models coming.

I raised the light an inch and turned it down to 75%. Reduced PAR a couple hundred umol across the canopy. We’ll see how they react :crossed_fingers:

I’m considering rearranging them a bit, the tallest cola shows the biggest leaf symptoms and is definitely in a PAR hotspot. Will try shuffling the lower plants into that spot and move her to a bit dimmer spot tomorrow.

The mommas are looking decent.

Still no roots on the Romulan cuts, gave a little foliar feed this morning.

Cheers guys. Appreciate the catch @lusid and hopefully reducing the canopy intensity a bit will help.

Actually @FieldEffect, there are small computer “nano” fans that people are utilizing for small spaces…

Your aware I’m sure, had to throw it out there. You’ll probably Sync them to do a 360 degree air-movement pattern

Funny your should mention that @MissinBissin, I’ve come up with an idea for an adustable mount based on these coolant flex hoses. It’s perfect for this application because they are easy to bend, sturdy, and you can easily adjust the lengths by snapping links in/out. There’s several ways, this is just what I think will work best.

Figured I’d draw up a design for the tent pole clamp and send to somebody like @JustANobody to get made. But I’m pretty slow at mechanical CAD and life has a way of finding alternative priorities. I also wanted to make a better rack for my meters. I got this one off Amazon which has been marginally functional but I think we can do much better. Tagged him to get his mind cooking primarily on the meter stand concept. 3 slots would be ideal but now I am liking the idea of 6 because I have two ORP meters and a PAX also residing in mine.

Don’t have much time this morning but I got the fan going, blowing slow. I ordered a replacement through ACI it’s not too large to work just imagined a bit more compact solution.

Getting a serious STINK going on from the flowers. I’m shocked how quickly the tall plants have adapted to their kinking, but they are back on the move - just laterally this time

Things are looking good overall, I didn’t see a need to move anything around seriously. Tomorrow I’m draining and refilling reservoirs on both sides. I need 2 5 gallon buckets of RO to accomplish that, filling one this morning and one tonight.

Big success at work this week so I’m happy but exhausted. Have a great day!

I like the meter stand. I should have a new laptop next week that will make designing easier. I really like the meter stand idea.
