Gonna have to break this stuff out more often!

1% Hydro/Perox test in progress. Scruffed 2 out of 3 sets of seeds…blaming the ‘forgot to scruff’ ones on the remains of last nights Durban Doobie which I couldn’t resist re-firing this morning at dawn! :crazy_face:

1st germination test was 20 hr. soak, second was 10 hr soak (neither worked!)…thinking to go 8 hrs on these? Any thoughts appreciated on this timing.

Hey @Tlander , this is what I do. If the seed is old and stored questionable, I scuff with sand paper. Then into a bath of 3% peroxide mixed 1:1 with warm tap water for 15-20 mins. Then into a aloe vera/tap water soak for 12-24hrs, in a warm, dark spot.
How I prepare -Cut up aleo into small chunks, skin and all. Mix with warm tap water, squishing the chunks against the side of the bowl, to get all the goodness out. I let that brew for a hr or so, with vigorous stirring even 10 mins. Strain out the chunks of aloe and then put the seeds in for their soak. I find I have the best results when I do this process during a full moon. Best of luck with your germinations!:crossed_fingers::v:

@Budderton @Maddawg Thanks bro! Well I’m at about 9 hrs now, and too late for the aloe treatment so gonna forego that! Too bad it’s just down at the far end of the nursery. I usually go for 24 hours soaks, but previous attempts with these never popped. I did pick up each one (of last tests) today and gave a gentle squeeze to see if I had white mush, but all were still very ‘solid’ feeling so I’m gonna just let them hang out on their bed of worm castings and see if sooner or later they crack. Not like they take up that much room! :joy: Yeah, hoping this time is different! I had 6% HPx and most of what I’d seen & heard said 1% dilution so went with that…as in pictures - they fizzled & bubbled a bit! 10 hrs later, out of the 9 beans, I got 5 sinkers & 4 floaters. We’ll see!

Well, if it hadn’t happened as I was staring at it I wouldn’t have believed it! The little vial with the Durban was standing on the counter on it’s cap with the other 2 as I folded up my paper towels to do the transfer. Suddenly the Durban vial “popped” from the gas pressure in the 2 ml. vial, sending the 4 seeds (kept 3 as backup) flying across my kitchen! Managed to find 3 of them and gave up on the last, as I think it flew over the ledge and out into the garden. (Stupidly) Hadn’t considered the gas build-up! Actually glad it happened while I was standing there or I’d probably be cussin’ out the dogs or the squirrels tomorrow morning! :joy: Anyway, everybody, but 1, is zipped in the towels and hanging.

G’morning to you guys, probably! Winding (the day anyway) down over here. Posting a few pics. Been shifting plants around as they outgrow their mossie-net veils and transplanting others from 1 g. airpots into permanent homes. Good chance to have a closer look at the individuals and take stock on how close reality is to that image in our head! I’m pretty happy with the way things are moving.

Tried to do a 33%/33%/33% division on the 'Natural/Trimmed/Fimmed structure of each strain to have a real side-by-side comparison…makes it more interesting to watch for me. I’m realizing that so many things change when you can suddenly grow out in the open (more or less!).

Here’s a few of the Apricots;

One of the Karel Haze;

Mites are a bitch, but I think outdoor over here just means having to deal with them! I really need a microscope to check these guys out. Not seeing them on the plants themselves, but no matter how hard I stomp on them with everything organic, when I check the mix it’s still crawling! Fuck!!! Praying I discover they’re just a soil-loving species that has some real purpose in catalyzing a fertility bonus for the plants! (Hey, a guy can hope, right!) :rofl:

Always a few young 'uns needing transplanting. Looks like a short breather for a couple days before the next wave hits. Found a late germinator from the Moby Dick batch (most of the rest of which are in 30-50 g. bags already) so named her “The Runt”. Got a soft spot for plants that form a cliff-side Japanese Pine tree form! She was branching so nicely, but I wanted to try, just once, not to trim off the huge water leaves to expose the branches to more light and see what happened. After 3 days I couldn’t take it anymore seeing those beautiful branches not getting a shot, so bent her over and tied her down (starting to sound like kinky-botany here!). Anyway, she got planted in a 50 g. this evening, but too late for a picture!

Alright, off to go check seed bags, have a great weekend everybody. I’ll burn one for ya over here! :call_me_hand:
(Let’s see how many ‘edits’ this one takes! :rofl:)

I can’t believe “Kinky-Botany” was mentioned and @ColeLennon hasn’t shown up yet. :fishing_pole_and_fish:

Yo @ColeLennon & @Hashton_Kusha cool you dropped by! Been lurking in Cole’s grow report and hoping the winds shift in his favor! How’s it going w/ the fires? Hashton_Kusha I’m gonna have to follow up on you with a name like that!

Got carried away playing “Seeds-of-Fortune” here on OG in the ‘Free Seeds & Clones’ thread! Lot of fun and some great giveaways by the OG’ers, I even managed to win one! But got called away to meet a delivery truck that was too overloaded to make it up the mountain (mostly with MY stuff! :crazy_face:). Managed to shuttle everything in and then spotted the backpack sprayer just sittin’ there all lonely…next thing I know the Sun’s going down again! :rofl: But boy does everything look better after a quick seaweed shower! Foregoing the labels on everything this time. Have a great week! :call_me_hand:

@ciganomarola Thanks, glad it ‘looks’ that way :crazy_face:

Today, in solidarity with the women of Iran, the girls cast off their veils…and similarly, some of them then got thrown straight into cages!

Meanwhile, the shorter statured ones got their freedom to start stretching out. It’s sure gonna make it a lot easier to work on them than when they were crowded together in the mossie nets.

Some portraiture;

Wishing these had all gotten an earlier start, but all-in-all they’re doing well. Don’t know how much longer the ‘nightlights’ are gonna be able to overpower the urge to start flowering? Starting to see a lot of alternating leaf ‘pairs’, so I can’t imagine they’ll hold out much longer. Still finding mite activity in the mix and hitting 'em w/ Beauveria bassiana every other day, but no signs (or very little) of them on the plants themselves. Still hoping they’re just some sort of soil mite! :roll_eyes:

Popping a few Moby Dick’s from Barney’s Farm to compare with the Columbians, couple more Durban Poisons pooped their heads up, more Koh Tao’s popping as well and a pair of Bruce Banners are starting to look like they want to challenge the Moby Dicks for “Queen of the Garden” status. Got 6 new gifted varieties from @Maddawg and half of those have shown tails already (BIG Thanks MD!). Kinda thumbing my nose at the proposed “15 plant per household” thing!

Well, time to get back to some seedling transplanting, hope you’re all having a good week!
OG The World ya all!

@ciganomarola Thanks so much! Well, this is only the ‘trial’ run…if you like it now, just wait until next looong season and see what happens when plants can actually go ‘in’ the ground around here! I’m just praying that the controversy carries on so long that no legislation on limitations gets passed for years and we can grow all we like! :rofl: :thailand: :joy: :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers: :pray: :pray: :pray:

Well, I guess it safe to say they ‘like’ their new homes out in the open!

Straightened the photo but forgot about the caption! :roll_eyes:

Had a good-hearted laugh yesterday…The “Gentle Giant” on my team passed me in the nursery coming back from the compost pile in a novel fashion…Proving once again, if you’re BIG enough, brains are just overrated grey matter!

:rofl:

Have a great day guys & gals!

Yo all! Been too busy to download pics lately but it’s catch-up time.
The caged girls seem pretty happy right now, First signs of flowering started showing themselves. I ‘believe’ that the nightlights gave me a couple extra weeks of vegging, but at this point I’m gonna switch the timers off tomorrow and let 'em rip. I knew I was getting a very late start on this outdoor run from the beginning, but it’s looking like there’s a chance to pull this off anyway!

The more heavily LST’ed plants are likewise starting to show flowers coming on so they too will get their nightlights cut off.

Got a bunch of seedlings going as well, but hoping to get a chance to thoroughly clean out my seedling rack (and entire porch) and lay any stray mites in their graves. Still getting an unbelievable number of mantis visiting both the seedling rack and the larger plants. They’re always most welcome!

Hope you’re all having a great day!
