First timer Gen Hydro DWC question.

I do not have a ppm meter. I have a nice ph pen but that’s it. Should I get ppm or ec? Any budget recommendations? I am kinda bootlegging it. Any recommendations for lst ties and how to attach them to the bucket lids ? I’m going to get reflective tape instead of foil for the lids. And reflectix double bubble insulation for wrapping the sides instead of towels. But right now I’m using cloth and tape to lst and it’s very difficult.

You can get decent combo meters with ppm, pH, temp, ec for like 30$ for ties I just use cheap ass pipe cleaners and I tie them to holes I drilled in one of the lips that go around the top of the bucket.

I’ve thought about using epoxy and attaching large washers to the lid but haven’t done it yet.

I was thinking “I hooks” screwed through the lid, and then I could just use pipe cleaners on those ? Pipe cleaners are strong enough and won’t cut the plant? And would the holes cause light issues for the roots ?

I’d be worried about the end of ihook rusting into bucket unless you found good stainless hooks.

Do a google search. LST a plant in dwc and click images. Lots of ideas

@Qtip True, maybe just glue them to the sides of the lid? A lot of the pictures don’t show exactly where to drill for a bucket tie down hole. I hear people say the side of the lid, but the lip for the lid is very small. Just would hate to drill holes for no reason

Especially considering I don’t have a power drill right now

There’s usually a few lips that go around the side a few inches from the top of the bucket. I think they’re there to keep the bucket from flexing when you pick it up by the handle. A few small holes all the way around should be enough to tie pipe cleaners to. Works for me. A power drill would be perfect but I’m sure you could get it done by other means.

I’ve been running RDWC for a few years now, with my last run the ladies just exploded in week 2 of Veg (even more than usual) so I bought a crap load of the bendy wire tie down for gardens. My current culture lids have a lip around the edge, I used the pressure from the plants pulling and the lip itself to tie them off too until I could utilize my scrog net, worked awesome. Any questions hmu

I would not drill holes in my lids personally.

I used the reflectix before as well before my chiller arrived, made a huge difference. Great stuff and they had sizes that are perfect for my 13 g buckets. And smaller ones that looked perfect for 5 gallons without much trimming if any at all
