Breeding references WIP

Hy everybody, Over to write again and again the same private messages with variations, I’ve finally decided to make a kind of bundle of references that i consider as very valuable to anyone interested by a rational approach in breeding. I don’t have said scientific (I’m absolutly not a scientist or a genetician), just rational. All books will ask a fews efforts to decypher if you’re not used to deal with breeding’s concepts and slang. Don’t expect a “how to breed a champion in three easy steps…

This doesn’t make sense to me. What is the point of hybridizing if not to take some qualities of both the male and female. If you want a transparent male your best option is to inbreeding and selection.

I was thinking more about this this morning. If it existed, a transparent male would be a shortcut of sorts. Inbreed a line without worrying about loss of vigor knowing that there was an unrelated transparent male waiting to outcross when the time came.

The concept of transparent is problematic. The issue being: transparent to whom? Transparency (i.e. a male with mono zygotic recessive traits that won’t dominate the female’s desirable recessives) might need to be engineered on a per strain (or per trait set) basis.

Anything stoned or broken about this line of thought?

never think “oh fck, i’m sure i’ve killed/losted the best phenotype” but think “i’ve not made enough seeds, i’ve not launched enough seeds”.

5 lines to maintain at a time is already intensive, but it’s the right number imho for a single breeder.
