I haven’t used it much, just a cpl years ago I used it while waiting for the led.
Funny thing is, now my wife will use it occasionally as a ext cord. It’s got everything but the light bulbs and Y peices. She just sitting there watching mtv charging her phone with my makeshift grow light on the couch next to her. Long as someone is using it lol
Yeah that’s what I started with too unfortunately not really good for growing a good light is best investment you’ll ever make but if it’s all you got grow on brother
Many people use them with varying degrees of success, do u have a picture of your setup? It should be doing something for them bro, not the best but it’s def possible. There are are few CFL diaries in Google results that u can see what’s possible.
I have a couple of blurples but I was thinking about using these to supplement the blurples until I get the scratch for a light that @Eagles009 and I have been talking about.
The last time I used them they had very little penetration into the canopy.
I thought to use one of these on each side to get some light down in there.
You don’t need a ton of light or penetration in veg I dont feel like. I’m vegging a box with one switch of a 110 watt blurple. So what maybe 40 watts of light and rest on fans (just guessing).
Node spacing and everything else satisfactory to me.
My wife insisted that I had the blurples set too far from the canopy but I was just going by feeling how warm it was on my hand. They came with 0 instructions.
Your lights look closer than I was though.
Maybe I was just too
I find my blurple has decent power like right under it. But the spread is garbage. Having a tight box that fits the light pretty well adds alot of power relative to when I ran this same exact light out in the open closet.
THAT makes total sense. Mine were in the big room so any light that did go wide wasn’t redirected into the plants.
Ok. I’ll start with the blurples as soon as I flip my current grow.
I’m just chewing at the bit to get this next set of beans going!
It should be noted that those meters dont measure the whole spectrum but rather the visible to humans spectrum. Dont get me wrong, they have their use but dont technically give accurate readings for grow lights. Not trying to discourage, just thought its worth mentioning.
I use a lux app from my phone, put those readings into the DLI formula, to find the rough estimates of much light is being given. Its not perfect, but it works for me for now. Still working on it though.
Thanks @MidwestMover .
I’m going to put one together to try it anyway and, yes, I am going with the clear 100w LED bulbs. I’m thinking seven or eight bulbs on a diy bar.
If nothing else, it’ll be a great light for my shop.
I’m sure it ain’t perfect but it’s more accurate than my guesses. I’ve had pretty good results. Obviously let the plant tell you if it wants more or less. But this is a great starting point. I really like it for setting plants at different heights so I can determine what they are getting where they are.
Edit. Extra useful for getting use to new lights. That’s why I bought it.
