Garden-Buddy's Basement

Humidity stays between 45-65%, has been closer to 60% lately. It is just the one plant displaying this, and it has looked screwed up since it sprouted, so idk, will probably cull it.

Ha, im going to be working on my rolling game, trying to roll the perfect toothpick joint.

There is no way i can finish a regular sized jay on my own most of the time, i will smoke 3 or 4 hits feel high and be done, with 3/4s of the joint to go. Ive been blessed/cursed with low tolerance, but i do love smoking/rolling joints.

I think it will be fun to try and roll the skinniest joint possible, Jamaican Slims, lol. In a similar vein I’ve also read about people rolling a jay with a filter in each end, then cutting it in half in the middle to make two smaller joints(2 for 1) and no relighting.

Here is a joint i lit today and as you can see i didn’t get very far smoking it.

Rolled up some tiny joints last night. Easier than I thought. I will try one out here in a little while.

Pinners and scrogs. Gonna be switching to 12/12 really soon, it has been about 4 weeks since i transplanted the RS and BHBX into beds. i want to give the smaller beds a chance to catch up to the larger beds, so couple more weeks of veg. I also trimmed up the under carriage of the plants and knocked back the cover crop a lot, i will probably switch to some kind of mulch in the future, the cover crop makes me nervous.

6 days later. Sprayed labs couple days ago.

Scrog on the larger two beds is filling in nicely, we will see how many holes open up soon after flip though, because im pretty sure there are a few males to be removed.

Went ahead and put it on 12/12 today. I will clean up all the cover crop, apply final ipm spray, and some flower goodies over the next few days.

Did some cleaning up, knocked back cover crop and trimmed under the canopy then played some “whack a mole” pushing stuff back under the net.

Top dressed 2 cups of ground malted barley and 1 cup black soldier fly frass per bed and watered it in with; root wise biophos, build-a-bloom, and coconut powder. The RS in one of the larger beds had gotten dry with out me noticing and they were all wilted, so i watered it extra, hopefully they will be happier tomorrow, derp.

Pulled out some males, pretty sure there are a couple more. All of the Rosetta Stone plants were male, and im almost certain that all the tiger mints are male, which leaves a couple of Blockhead BXs, the Jaeger mystery plant, and an Apollo 13 being female, really thought id get more than four females out of all the plants i had, bound to happen eventually though. I chopped up the plants and put them in a bucket with LABS water.

Oh man, that bucket of leaves and labs is starting to get funky! I put a gamma seal lid on it to keep the smell in check, gonna leave it in a corner for a few months and see what happens.

Sprayed some build-a-bloom and some coconut water on everything. Humidity has been a challenge with the extreme cold temps, fuck!

Here’s a picture of one of the nicer looking Colombian Gold buds i pulled…

I found out we are at ground zero for the hatching of two broods of cicadas that haven’t been out at the same time for 220 some years! Ha! This is gonna be crazy! Bet they would make an awesome organic garden input!? Probably gonna have to keep nets over everything in the veggie garden this year. What kind of party should we throw for them!?

My basement is around 25% relative humidity if I don’t take any action. With a humidifier running and using a spray bottle a few times per day, I can almost get it to 40%

I bet that CG is a nice, heady smoke!

Yeah, literally watering the floor.

The CG is a nice high, wish that the grow had gone better than it did. A lot can go wrong during 24 weeks of flowering, hehe.

Got a plug in watt meter thingy, so ive been doing an energy audit on the basement.

The biggest draw is, by far, coming from any appliance with a heating element, the space heater is pulling; 1500w(high), 816w(med), 701w(low) and the Vicks humidifier was pulling 255w(unplugged now!) I have an air innovations cool mist humidifier that only draws 11w(will buy another one).

Next was the lights and fans. I have two diy LED lights that are pretty identical but one draws 107w and the other one is pulling 156w. I also have a third light that i put together with 4 qb132s and it pulls about 270w. Various fans draw 200w.

So total watts for the basement in “winter mode”: space heater on medium, lights, humidifier, fans(2 box, 1 oscillating, 3 clip ons) is:
1572w.

Now im thinking about how much solar generator/back up power I need.

Chugging along over here! These Blockhead BXs look a lot different, much narrower leaves than last round. I dont know if it is the scrog or different phenos, they are going hard though, might need to feed them again.

Been trying to figure out what is lacking or being locked out. This looks like some kind of deficiency, not sure if it is water stress or nutrition.

Im on like day 43 or so of 12/12. Bed has been pretty dry. But I’ve watered with build a bloom and coconut couple times recently to try and keep up better. 2 Blockhead BXs, container is like 80-90 gallons of a modified coots mix(worm castings/rabbit poo, peat, perlite, calcined clay, ect) along the way I’ve added; gypsum, barley, rootwise, frass, crustacean meal, aloe, coconut water, more worm castings, couple remend kits(one from KIS, one from BAS) All over about 3 or 4 years. i could maybe do more with teas and ferments, but id think this soil is sufficient. My water has gone through a hose end style carbon filter. Might need a soil test, hehe.

Each grow cycle seems to have its unique challenges, this time im running into some water/nutrition(i think) related problems.

I got air in the blumat lines and some of my drippers weren’t dripping. The blusoak tape(thinking i should replace it)in the bed with the 2 Blockhead BXs hasn’t been keeping up, so ive been having to hand water it here and there.

While adjusting the blumats i noticed my soil is very crunchy, seemingly compacted, so I’ve added several worms to each container for more aeration/earth magic;)
