50 years ago today!
Thank you Betty Cantor-Jackson for your wonderful recordings!! This is a great article and reminds me of how I slowly revealed my affliction to my wife.
Canāt wait to read these between work meetings today
That second link is to the audio version of the article. Great listen!
Canāt believe no one has posted this show yet today
Happy Grateful Dead Day!

This might be the same matrix I found back in college! Mmm, this show just rocks. Iām listening now to that āDancināā that closes out the first set and I cannot sit still, my body needs to move with the music!
Also, I found this cool coffee table book for sale. I havenāt checked the price listing but it looks neat and has an intro by David Lemieux.

Setlist for this show looks sweet, and I love the artwork for that video thumbnail! Gotta admit that I havenāt listened to much '80s era Dead. Brent is still the ānew guyā in my mind
This song is magical. I canāt wait to hear this rendition.
Nice one! Thereās shitty video of this show on the YT. That She Belongs to Me is a great one! 85ā GD is one of my most favorite years! Jerry was gruff at times, but his playing was inspired!
During the first year that my wife & I were dating I took her to a special movie theater event to see Truckinā Up to Buffalo - July 4, 1989. She had heard some Dead by then and knew Iām really into their music, but this was the first time she had ever seen video footage of the band performing. The theater crowd was awesome, not very crowded at all so there was lots of room for folks to dance and have a joyful time. Definitely smelled a joint being smoked in there and wished I had packed my handheld vaporizer
My wife became a fan that day! She had a blast and said that the show helped her āgetā what is special about the band and their fans. I donāt think she ever plays their music herself but I play them quite a lot and sheās never once complained!
This is the only '80s show Iāve ever seen / heard in its entirety.
Truckinā Up to Buffalo
July 4, 1989
I wish that they would do theater screenings more often. Itās been about 8 years and I donāt know if there have been any in my area since then.
EDIT: I was wrong! It wasnāt a screening of Truckinā Up to Buffalo but instead it was actually an unreleased video that was shot two nights earlier. Part of the āMeet Up at the Moviesā annual event that Iāve apparently been missing each year! Haha
No word yet on a meet up movie event for 2024.
Sullivan Stadium 7/2/89
This setlist looks much more familiar
And hereās a video of Heās Gone from that performance
Todayās 5/20/73 āDead of the Dayā show is excellent! Never heard this one before. Iām four songs into the first set and itās lifting my day. The āLooks Like Rainā is superb.
Dude! Rest easy brother Bill!
This was the show where a storm pops up in the distant desert then makes a beeline toward the stadium as Terrapin is winding down into drums. Bill and Mickey played the thunder and lightning, then there was a brief cooling shower (a nice respite from the blazing Vegas sun). As Space morphed into Spanish Jam, a double rainbow appeared to escort the storm away. The crowd reactions really come through on the AUD tapes. I had eaten mushrooms that day and the storm was a really powerful experience!
Edit to add: They changed the camera view at 1h44m30s to show the storm!!!
