Greenup tries expensive auto flowers (mephisto)

Great thread we need more of this info. Currently growing autos. Temps range from the 35f to 75f.
All 4 were started at the same time, in the same environment. I can’t really think of anything I did different with the one big one other than transplanting it straight in the ground.

But even the smaller purple ones have netted bottomless pots

I’ve been kicking around this idea now for a few years. A way to quickly build a top shelf autoflower seed collection and I would like to share it here briefly. So I’m getting ready to start a journal growing an autoflowering plant which I will be reversing to make S1 seeds. Joining me will be @Greenup and @GCBudz both doing the same thing. But let’s suppose there were 10 of us participating, all growing a different auto strain and making S1 seeds? At the end of the grow we would each send say a pack of 20 of the auto seeds we made to each of the other 9 participants and they would all do likewise. In the time it would take us to reverse one strain for S1 seeds we could all each have 10 total new strains. We could even play around with some voting on which strains we’d like to see each other grow? It would be a lot of fun I think, what do ya’ll think? Think there are seven more auto growers who would like to join in?

Once I’m done with the Chem91 reversal I could help out with a project like this.

I will participate in the seed sharing. Would love to have a nice autoflower library. However, this is my fist try at selfing… so I dont know that I will be successful let alone make 200+ seeds to share. My supplies to make STS should be arriving today.

It will be just like a science project in school. We will all do everything together at the same time. All using the same STS spray. You can do this man, I have faith. I’ve been working on my list of 10 potential auto strains to run in the seed making project and have come up with the following options.

  1. Bear Assed Monkey…Mephisto
  2. Stilton Special…Mephisto
  3. Toof Decay X Walter White…Mephisto
  4. Vanilla Latte auto…Humboldt Seed Co.
  5. Girl Scout Cookies…Fast Buds
  6. Fugue State…Mephisto
  7. Skyler White…Mephisto
  8. Double Grape X Forgotten Cookies…My Mephisto cross
  9. Wedding Cheesecake…FastBuds
  10. Auto Creeper…Legendary Oldschool Genetics

These are all strains I am wanting to grow for a preservation run. Seeds I have only a few left on hand and would love to make more rather than buy more. @nefrella @LedZeppelin @Yetigrows you guys / gals have any interest in participating in something like this? I know you all breed auto seeds so you’re perfect fits.

@LoveDaAutos I’m currently in the process of attempting to self a Sour Crack, and that will be my only breeding project until after the Easter holiday.

Possible, but can’t commit to anything as I fly by the seat of my pants!

Nice lineup!!!

I too am currently running a Sour Crack that I just dusted a few buds on with some Grappa pollen.

STS Update: I have received Silver Nitrate, bottles and spray bottle but still waiting on the Sodium Thiosulfate.

Plant updates

Strawberry Crinkle is looking so tasty. I check trichomes daily and I am seeing a lil bit of amber on the top cola. Most of the buds are looking full developed except the bottom two sets of branches.

White Creme is growing beautifully and compared to the Strawberry crinkle its further along that SC was at day 32. I started pulling down one set of branches to get the away from the main stem since the crinkle ended up with all the buds growing into one giant mass. I also started tucking the bottom large leaves under the lower branches. probably going to add more wire or tie these other branches down a bit to get them away as they grow bigger.

Double grape is above soil. I popped it in a riot cube as a test and it grew so fast i had to get it into soil fast. Been recycling soil and this soil wasn’t quite to where i wanted it to be but I had to get it planted.

Had a scare with the Blood Orange Haze. The giant pot was pretty dry already and the bit of water I added dried up faster than expected. But after a little lag it’s also above sol but still wearing it’s helmet.

Here are the two seeds I tried starting in the root riots. Pretty happy with how it went, next time I will plant in soil sooner tho. Love using these things upside down. Gives a great base to keep them upright when planting in soil and the don’t get stuck in the tray holes.

Had a sweet mini growmie meetup yesterday where me and some buddies checked out my grows, sampled harvests, traded seeds, gave clones, and went to the grow shop. It was so much fun. We each got some different microbes so we can share. From what I understand diversity is key.

Buddies got some Mammoth and I grabbed some recharge, great white, and fish shit. One buddy already uses recharge. Anyone with experience with any of these I am happy to hear your opinions. Gona do some research. Since I have been recycling my soil I want to expand my recipe a bit. I have been using just worm castings and gia green all purpose to re-amend my soil. Now I am gona add insect frass and some of these microbes, and I got a pack of the build a soil re-amend kit, just not sure on the amounts I am gona use, research time.

Your plants are looking fabulous @Greenup :heart_eyes_cat: Keep up the good work!!! I gotta say, the Mephisto genetics are pretty fire, they make it easy. :four_leaf_clover:

I’m surprised there’s not another option on your list… the Fog Dog. I still get requests for that one.

The White Chem is another…

I’d like to throw some auto pollen at the Chem91 as well…

I thought you were going to reverse the Fog Dog and send me a bunch of seeds? What auto will you be running / reversing when we start the multi-grower seed run in a couple weeks?

Guess I misunderstood your list… I will be doing FD and sending you a bunch.

In a few weeks I’ll be doing the Chem91 reversal… so I guess my schedule doesn’t jive with yours. I’ll watch this round from the sidelines and join in the next auto s1 run.

I have a few Mephisto strains of just a few beans I could do. AvT… 3 BOG… Forgotten Cookies… may be another or two.

How certain are you of the Alien Vs. Triangle? It’s on my short list of Mephisto strains I’m trying to find.

I got all the stuff to make my STS. Got ready to make it late last night and realized I am almost out of distilled water so I will need to run to the store today.

A little plant update:

The strawberry crinkle is still cranking. No amber yet but it’s got to be getting close!

The White Creme is growing great and I trained and tucked more of it to get the buds away from each other. It’s starting to flower now. White creme photo below.

There are some major differences in the three recipes I am looking at. I thought they were just different batch sizes but it seems there is more to it than that. One thing I noticed is a possible typo in your recipe @LoveDaAutos

Shouldn’t that be “0.25 of silver nitrate”?

One place where directions vary massively is the dilution step. One recipe says:

50ml A plus 50ml of B for 100ml stock solution. Mix this into 800ml of distilled water. Aiming for a 1:9 stock to water mixture.

Obviously this is actually 1:8 but its pretty different than the ratio I understand from @LoveDaAutos

So 250ml of stock solution mixed with 250ml distilled water is a 1:1 ratio. Orders of magnitude different than the other recipes.

The sebring video description and video itself(video he uses 1:10 ratio) says:

This stock solution is then diluted at a ratio of 1:9 to make a working solution. For example, 100ml of stock STS is added to 900ml distilled water.

The creation of the stock solution between LoveDaAutos, Sebring, and the other recipe are all very very close if the “1.25g of silver nitrate” was a typo in LoveDaAutos recipe.

I am ready to make my solution but I want to resolve this dilution question.

This is what I did and it was very successful. Again this is also cause I used the recipe that Sebring states so it only made sense to follow suit.

ABSOLUTELY A TYPO…should be .25 grams of silver nitrate to 1.95 grams of sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate. I do NOT use a 1:8 ratio I use the ratio I indicated, that part is not a typo. 125ml part A, 125ml part B, and 250ml of distilled water makes up the working blend put into the spray bottle.

I absolutely would not be bothered if you use a different formula or ratio for your STS. Go with whatever feels right to you.

Oh, but when I mix part A and part B I am mixing the .25 silver nitrate and 1.95 grams of the Sodium Thiosulfate Pentahydrate into 250ml of distilled water. So you’re making enough of A and B for two spray bottles.
