Good Reading Here…
Pasta water can be used to water plants because it provides (NPK) fertilizer and minerals for plants to effectively use while promoting a healthy bacteria population. This results in healthy plant growth. Pasta water can also be applied using any watering method and can also ward off unwanted pests when fermented.
im a jokey dude, but all jokes aside, that just blew my mind!
Everything I know I was shown by someone else, Not a bright bulb, But always on.
all you’d have to do is KNF some gabbagool next and you’d really be growing yourself a spicy meatball!
see above reference to being a “jokey dude”
There was a guy here called Swampwolf, he showed me this and more about natural farming. He used rope wicks to bring water up into plants on saltwater surrounded islands. Salt is delineated in transfer.
btw chef alan has some cool stuff
Hey fam, I’m replying to my own post regarding cultivation of indigenous microorganisms.
I just want to update so that people’s can avoid my mistake.
First, it is often warned to avoid molasses and use jaggery, or other unrefined sugar to synthesize KNF inputs. Now, so far, I’ve found molasses to work fine in LABS, and in FPJ and FFJ, but it did not work for my IMO batch.
In my amateur mycology work, culturing/inoculating grain requires “field consistency”, essentially meaning not too wet, and not too dry. My mixture here was too wet with molasses, and resulted in a big jar of black mold.
ALSO most recipes in KNF call for a 1:1 ratio of input and sugar, however IMO-2 calls for a 2:1 ratio (2 parts grain to 1 part sugar), which, as I said I “eyeballed” which was ultimately the wrong decision.
Will update after I bury some rice in my yard for a few days again.
I woke up with some acid indigestion this morning, and I decided to see if my LABS would help. Drank a TBSP in a cup of water, and I’ll report back with any results.
Heads up, this may come as a surprise: Drinking bacterial molasses water isn’t awful, but it’s certainly not pleasant either.
How did you feel after the fact? Did it help?
I didn’t notice a lot of relief from the indigestion, but I DID find myself hella hungry later in the day.
I’m gonna do a week of supplementing with LABS and see what happens.
If you have acid reflux organic apple cider vinegar with water before your meal helps.
Your gall bladder is supposed to make bile acid to break down your food. If it’s sluggish or not working well as in most people with high carb diet’s, it will not make enough acid to trigger a valve at the top of your digestive tract to close off.
This allows undigested food back up into the asophagas causing the burn. If you use antacids to neutralize your acid reflux you are just making the problem worse in the long run.
LABs is acidic so you should see some improvements but you don’t want to over run your gut microbiome with just one type of bacteria, there needs to be balance.
Interested to see how well it works for you, good luck
Wild cultured LABS should be a wide variety of lactic acid loving bacteria I believe.
I eat clean, and almost never have GI issues, but I had a couple days where I had a couple alcoholic drinks each day (I almost never drink, and certainly not 2 days in a row), and it fucked up my gut biome.
Some cider vin had always fixed me up right as rain, but this time it actually made things worse!
That’s why I waited until thE morning and then tried out the LABS.
Interesting, glad it’s not a long time problem for you. Surprised the OACV made things worse for you.
Alcohol will have a negative affect on your microbiome, beer is the worst, then wine, hard liquor is not so bad surprisingly, as most of the sugar is removed during fermentation.
You may have just been lying in a bad position that allowed the reflux back up.
I make a probiotic naturally fermented ginger beer, all the sugar is fermented out so it’s very dry tasting, and has a little alcohol in it.
Hey! This is a super thread, KNF has been gaining huge traction for the last while. I feel Chris Trump deserves some credit as his youtube videos were easy to digest and a great introduction for many.
Cannabis grown in living soil just tastes better, anyone whos grown with it can attest to it. I’ve been growing with KNF home made inputs for just over 5 years now, and will use nothing else but wild harvested, and or home made inputs. (Also generally make my own soils using various ingredients)
Quickly skimmed through my old icloud for these shots, all of which were grown using Korean Natural Farming.
Would be happy to share more photos and help answer any questions.
I’d love to hear more about your inputs.
What works, what doesn’t. Do you use specific inputs for vegetative vs flowering stages?
Is the corn KNF grown as well?
Your results speak for themselves! Great looking produce!
I’ve had great success with many inputs listed in cho’s book. KNF is encouraged for foliar use, but I’ve been using this paired equally with feeds/soil drench.
LAB’s in some scenarios, however it isn’t part of my regiment often, it can be used as a preventative for PM. I also do not have an official OHN (Oriental Herbal Nutrient) a lengthy process to make, I am currently using a chaga tonic (for it’s antibacterial properties) which I find works ok for the purpose.
Indiginous Micros’ once I made a few Jars of IMO from various places, havn’t really had to worry about it. Have since inoculated different mediums and used in different fashions such as home made bokashi etc, for easy storing, and fast use.
My go to is FPJ’s (fermented plant juice and ffj - fruit juice) the cool thing about these are as long as what you are using as the main material is non toxic you’re good to go. Then think about it in terms of chemistry or plant knowledge. For instance, I harvest the tops and tips of any types of thistle, I find right before they are about to explode in flower they are jammed packed with chemistry that a plant starting flower will eat right up. Silica? Go to horsetail, its naturally high in Silica, and breaking it down in this way, making all those things bio available in your feeds. (horsetail below)
Nitrogen? Go to your Fish Amino Acids, or FAA. Or jump back to making an FPJ made with something thats high in Nitrogen, like clover or such. I always source away from any possible spraying, preferably rural or completely in the wild. Example: fish from a remote creek/lake, and or clover from a 12 year old ex cow field, etc.
Not sure if this could fall into KNF but I’ve been using habanaro and garlic puree concentrate then dilhuted and used as a foiliar in the garden on greens - for IPM side of things, and until recently havn’t had too many ‘battles’ - just be sure you’ve given them a good couple weeks in the leading to any harvest for things such as lettuce or early veg growth for cannabis so you don’t get any risidual taste, however at the right dilution/rate of use
its not a big deal.I’ve used a pest species called the zebra mussel which their shells washes up on some lakes shores where I used to live, (I could shovel it into pails, the stuff was knee deep - pure shells) placed this in vinegar after cooking out random organics left and have calcium on hand. I use eggshells now, but use what you got.
Cal Phos is killer and obviously can’t be ignored. I’ll Char organic bones the same way you would make bio char - then make in the same process as I did with the shells.
(burned up wood starved of o2 in the process)
keep in mind, you never want to overdue the use of some inputs, as the sugar/vinegar contents, as long as you keep your thumb on it as you use it. Ive never run into issues with this, but it’s always been a concern in the back of my mind for things like PH. (I’ve never used these inputs outside of a soil grow)
The only reason I stumbled on these methods is because I was tired of using shit I didn’t consider ‘clean’. I am a firm believer that if you are growing it in most cases, and certainly with a bioaccumulator like cannabis you should use inputs which are also healthy for you. When I found out that the inputs in KNF can be ingested and can BENEFIT someones health with their daily use… I was sold…
Now that I’ve had some time to get comfortable with a regiment that works, and seen the results first hand, I think I will continue to use these ideas, expanding and experimenting as I go.
Obligitory IMO’ collecition shots: (I find a bamboo steaming basket works awesome)
KNF is constantly blowing my mind - leave you with this seedling started with a good dose of FAA.
Great info! Thanks for writing all that down @Soiltech , bookmarked!
I’ll prob have some questions once I read thru it a few more times.
I’m just beginning my trip down this rabbit hole so it’s great to hear some long term successes
Hey no worries. I’m an unofficial ambassador for sure and happy to help anyone who’s considering the dive down that rabbit hole. It’s a real game changer … my journey with cannabis started with miracle grow in 02… haha. come a long way.
Sounds familiar I’ve learned so much from this plant and I feel like I’m still just scratching the surface.
Cannabis really is a gateway drug to gardening
