Question…
When making OHN is it required to wait till you have done all 5 extractions before use or can use a little bit of the first extractions? Would this be too potent to use?

Good question and one I can’t answer. I know Marco only does 3 extractions then calls it a day.
I’m thinking it would be pretty potent considering how many times they refill it with fresh alcohol. You got something outside you can test it on, maybe some weeds or something?

Okay to use Use it imo. Sometimes they lose efficacy after the 2nd or 3rd extraction and I’ll stop there and use.

I should add use with discretion lol. This is comming from a cook who generally doesn’t follow recipes in the kitchen

Yes, it is important to clean your vessels very well. The recommend would be to clean everything with BRV or a fruit vinegar.
With the use of all the sugar it is quite possible to attract unwanted pests if one is not careful.
If they have found you already I’d clean the area and move the inputs to a new place.
Maybe even put out some taro to deter their return.

I’m basically on the same step of my first OHN run. We did use several gallons of rum, so we should have a BUNCH soon. Also, I’m trying to go commercial with a modest little home-grow 14’x60’ greenhouse. I’m almost done building, excited…

a pineapple/banana peel ferment and an aloe ferment. My question is do I let is sit in the jar for a few days before sealing it up? Do I store in the fridge? Basically what’s next? Also has anyone done a basil leaf ferment?

When you say ferment, do you mean FPJ or FPE?
Once its strained its good to go.

Well I did pure cane sugar, Labs, pineapple and banana peels. I think that’s considered fpj right? The aloe was the same.

Yeah, FPJ… you could supersaturate it so it’s more shelf stable but I’d always at least leave the lid loose.
It’s alive so it very well may build up pressure. I wouldn’t “”seal” it.
