An access by account can be helpfull, so i can clean up the uploads not used / not posted. Iām too often baked to believe that i donāt have a few double or triple uploads somewhere lol
My cell phone is 50 megapixels but the file size is only 5-15mb (usually on the lower end). When I hover over pictures Iāve uploaded it says theyāre like 300kb. Is this what the thumbnail is or are my pics getting majorly downsized because theyāre above the resolution limit? A lot of cell phones these days have well over 40mp sensors. Would be nice to put a limit on the file size and not the resolution, especially since my larger resolution images donāt seem to go anywhere near the current file size limit even though they exceed the pixel limit.
The system takes care of that.
I havenāt studied the exact rules for downsizing, but the fact is that we canāt work without it.
Thereās no point in storing such big files. The primary use of photos on the site is for viewing on a mobile screen or computer screen by large audience. Itās not meant to be personal storage for full-resolution photos or printing on paper. There are better suited services for personal galleries and storage like Google Drive or iCloud.
I never said anything about wanting to store all my photos on OG. I have almost 30tb on my computer. I was just curious because you said you have no trouble uploading files up to 25mb when mine are downsized to like 0.3mb. Bud shots look nicer in higher resolution. Even 2-4mb would be better than 0.3. My full size photos are well below the limit for file size, just not pixels. If I change my camera setting to 12mp instead of 50mp the file size is still around 4-5mb. Will that upload as a full size image? Or is it still going to become 0.3mb?
Edit: just checked a few other peopleās photo sizes and Iām either slow and the 0.3 ish mb pics is the thumbnail and if you click view full image thatās higher resolution? Or less than a mb is just the standard for the site for pics?
I know youāre a fan of pushing megapixels to the max. You are not a typical user.
Yes, there are two sizes: thumbnail and āfullā size.
The current target is around one megabyte, with plans to increase that soon. But we shouldnāt get too hung up on the numbers. If you do the comparisons and considering the downsizing is done properly, on an average PC monitor screen, itās pretty hard to tell the difference between a one-megabyte image and a three-megabyte one. Majority of our users view the site on 6 inch mobile screen.
And I donāt even want to compare mobile phones to real cameras. Sure, itās easy to put a 40-megapixel chip on a phone, but itās much harder to fit it with a proper lens. Those cheap tiny lenses canāt really take full advantage of the 40 megapixels.
If youāre looking to show details like trichomes, you should post close-ups or cropped images. Donāt expect endless zoom.
