Handguns and firearms talk

Very true, for someone that is good with a pistol. But for anyone with limited firearm experience, 12ga is point and shoot.

Ahhhhh, spot on. Haha

My buddy has some crazy expensive pistols that shoot like pellet guns, but theyā€™re 9mm. Iā€™d have to look the name up. Itā€™s a fancy sounding name I feel like. He owns a shop and him and all of his buddies are former or current military. Theyā€™re super into guns. Iā€™ve just sat around listening and shooting with them. Lived in a friendā€™s house in 1,000 acre orange grove when I moved back to FL and did a ton of shooting out there. Thats the only reason I know any of this stuff or got to shoot all of these expensive weapons. Haha

Edit: Looked it up and believe the expensive pistols that shot insanely easy were Staccato. Pretty crazy how they shoot.

Are you shooting two handed? Your doing yourself a great service by practicing with smaller calibers. Gets you used to the anticipation. Thereā€™s some great charts that help show how adjust based on your shot groupings. Also finger placement on the trigger is important. Should be the tip of your finger pad, finger should not wrap around the trigger. You pull your finger not squeeze. Focus on gripping with your other fingers and not your trigger finger. Squeezing the trigger causes you to flex the rest of your grip and shoot inward and down from you dominant hand. If shooting with two hands I always tell people try push- pull method. Your dominant hand should grip the gun, then press your fist into your support hand. Support hand should cup the front of your fist and that thumb should lay parallel to the slide resting against the pistol body not the slide to avoid injury when the action cycles. In this configuration when taking aim bring your pistol up and aim. When aiming I.like to think of your front sight as pin. Pin that front sight on what you want to hit and bring the rear sights up so the front rests in-between. elbows bent and push your pistol hand into your support hand and pull back with your support hand firmly. Not so hard that your shaking just enough to stabilize the gun. Aim and fire. Practice two to four shots consecutively and check your groupings. Youā€™ll

All of these new optics, lights, lasers and whatnot are pretty sweet too and make some stuff easier. Firearm stuff is quite the rabbit hole to go down. The customizations can go on forever. Haha

Thatā€™s a beautiful gun sir. I almost bought a PPQ for my first gun. I ended up with an HK vp9. I love that thing. I hardly ever miss a shot with it. Just fits so good in my hand. I want to upgrade it or get the competition version.

Yes. Two handed. Iā€™m a pistol baby as my primary firearm work has been mostly long range rifle. But, am starting to have fun getting up to speed on pistol handling. Dueling trees with friends, plates, and paper et al. Havenā€™t even tried holster draws as my skills are still in their infancy.

Thank much for the tips. Pretty much need to work on much of that.

Iā€™m no expert to be honest. Just some tips I picked up at the range. Me and my dad would go shooting, I got really into it and would go almost every weekend. Ammos too expensive now. I havenā€™t done any holster draws myself as the ranges here donā€™t allow. Really you just need to practice your draw to aim speed. I just lower the gun to my waist then bring up aim and fire as quickly as I can. It has helped me a lot to be able to get on target faster first fire and subsequent fires. I shoot 9mm, my philosophy is more shots on target is better than one or two heavy shots. If can empty a mag at 20 yards and keep tight groupings Iā€™m better off than most people out there with a gun. I see people at the range just completely clueless using calibers and weapons they have no business around. I started posting up and watching everyone at the range before I shoot. Iā€™ve been next to scary people before.

I switched up from a competition Colt 1911 to a Sig Sauer P226 a few decades ago now.

Scary bad. Iā€™ve seen folk walk down range without bringing the range cold. Just donā€™t know, they need to get some guidance. Pissed the bejeezus out of some on the line.

But, scary good too. The firearms community is not unlike the canna community in many respects.

There are some very dedicated folk that are out at the range almost daily. One buddy purchased a large lot of land with his primary rationale being that he could set-up a range, wake up in the morning, do some practice exercises, then make breakfast with the veggies out of his garden. A bit paranoid but my kind of paranoid.

Damn i even saw a legendary bullpup and a shotgun ā€œmagpulā€ style ^^

Canā€™t share but when we visit family in Swiss with my wife :

  • wifey swear only by the 1911 (45acp)
  • i swear only by manurin 73 (357), and revolver in general with similar frames that make me look the handgun more than firing it lol

What are you talking about?? That little dude shouldnā€™t be firing a DE .50?? The idiot three stalls down shouldnā€™t be gripping his laser grip and not realizing heā€™s shining his laser on everyone?? Hahaha Iā€™m too scared to go to a public range these days. Absolute morons there.

Presidentā€™s hundred. Distinguished rifleman. I no longer compete. They allow scopes in national match now; I did it with iron sights. 200-300-600 yards. Also took medals as part of team, including rattle battle. I wonā€™t say the years, too easy to dox me. Now, I just fish and play guitar, and drink bourbon.

I have a Beretta .380 Tomcat because I wanted something compact. Itā€™s a little too small but it fits in your pocket. My favorite pistol has been a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter.
I have a Ruger M77 308 bolt action rifle that I kill white tail deer and hogs with. I like to target shoot with a .22. Hoping to buy a lot more guns and ammunition this year since gun rights are being taken away.

@GYOweed Actually that is my personal weapon. We were carrying the Beretta M9 as a duty weapon back in my era of service. I was never a fan personally, if not for just for being too light weight. I was glad that we later got past the ban on foreign made weapons and weapons like the Sig Sauer P226 began being issued to many soldiers as duty weapons.
