Hey guys, I got a new tent, 4x8. For now we will only be utilizing half of it since we o ly have a 750w kind k5 led.
Anyways in this 4x4 I’m thinking about running six 5 gallon containers. Probably buckets with holes drilled through the sides and lines with landscape fabric to allow the roots to air prune.
Now I wanted to do no till but it’s just not possible right now so I’m think of doing ROLS system but I’m having some issues making a decision on my mix. (this is a very bad habit of mine, I hate making choices because I always feel like I’m making the wrong one) I know there are tons of soil recipes out there but like I said, decisions decisions.
Also I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts recently and I cannot recall which it was he was saying that a friend of his does a mix of organics and chemical ferts and the smell and taste of the bud was just as good of not better than his straight organic run. (these were the same cultivar) so that left me even more unsure… So I’m thinking, should I try to find good info on mixing the two styles and get better yields while still carrying that flavor… Or choice two, just do the ROLS which is a lot harder to fuck up the plants…
Anyways, share your opinions, tell me I’m crazy, tell me you love me… Whatever, I just need feedback… I discuss with my partner but she’s clueless when it comes to in depth things about growing…
Was wondering if you can get your hands on some good compost? I’ll bet ya can turn out some good bud with just peat, vermiculite, worm cast, and compost… I think a lot of people underestimate the benefits of worm castings there’s a lot ofyour (NPK) right there! Throw in some minerals such as azomite or rock dust and think you can rock it with just that!
Thanks man… There is a supply yard outside of town that has ‘organic’ Compost… But it’s mainly grass from lawns and leaves/brush treated with chemicals ferts…
I was working for a landscaping company and we went to pick up a ton of their soil made from their compost… Lots of trash in it, wrappers, plastics, even some pop can pieces. So other than that place I haven’t found a local source for compost…
Money Isn’t a HUGE issues… Sure I’d like to buy locally but if I have to ship in compost or castings, it’s what I gotta do. I’d use my castings but I only have probably 3 cups of it… My worm family is getting bigger but I still think I need to buy a few thousand worms and get a bigger bin so I don’t have to buy them when I go to recycle the soil.
Oh man, it’s terrible… My misses hates me for it… We cannot shop together. It’s impossible.
I irritate her buy taking forever and trying to make the best decision and she drives me nuts by being picky as fuck. Csnt buy off brand things that I Know taste great because ‘it’s not the same’… Meaning I don’t like change an I’m not open to new experiences… It’s taxing sometimes… Lol
I usually don’t have this attitude, but that book is a fucking joke. Duh rev is a clown with his spikes and layers. If you want to read a real book about organics, try Teaming With Microbes.
My advice with the fabric in the bucket pass. Imo you’ll be happier either or. Think it’ll have the opposite effect of what your looking for. You’ll still need space between the soil/fabric n bucket to dry. Get water heater trays n fabric pots if that’s what u want. For your actual mix depends what you have avil. This is def worth it n they got everything for nutes. https://customhydronutrients.com/source-fines-leonardite-products-45-pound-bag-p-517.html?cPath=134_135_138_368_370
My advice if you’re shooting for a more economic grow if you’re going non bottled organics; don’t skimp on lights, compost, or genetics. I would buy peat bales and pumice as well as a pre mixed amendment bag like from down to earth or Dr earth.
Don’t waste your money on their “worm castings”, it’s won’t be anywhere close to being a good source of live microbes. Which is what worm castings and compost are for. They add the diverse populations of microbes soils need to break down the amendments you add, making them available for the plant to take up. Don’t use city “compost” either, it’s likely to me full of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and lastly it’s anaerobic decomp so it’s more likely to have pathogens.
The only thing you really should need to order online if you don’t have it on hand is quality compost.
Can you explain this? My thought was to get a 2" hole saw and cut out a lot of the bucket… Mainly it would just support the weight of the soil while it’s inside the fabric… But now that I’m thinking about it idk how necessary it’ll be… These will be the final container and if I go with more than a 3 gallon pot I probably won’t have to worry about things becoming root bound.
And that link… Wasn’t that just like a humic product? Not a soil mix?
I’m not totally against using bottled nutes if need be, but I’d like to just feed with some teas now and then. I don’t want to skimp on anything anywhere really… My partner bought a $1400 LED, my genetics this round are coming from @LED_Seedz, and well, I think I’m shit outta luck on good compost. I csnt find anything online or calling around… There was a farm I visited awhile back to look at their compost… I was supposed to get a call after they used it on their field and if there was any left I’d have it. But there’s been no call and no one answers when I do…
So what’s a good commercial available compost and castings? I have a small bin but there isn’t enough in there for what I need.
Well I would like to make my own mix yes… But I was just thrown off by how you worded things like it was a complete mix… I was expected a good base mix or something lol
And as far as bottom feeding… That really wasn’t my plan… Yeah a good bit of water will come through the holes but it all will be caught in their drip pans and soak it back up.
Ohh was saying that company has every hort grade nute you might want. Great for a comparison for $ and they’re decent on most products. If you want a base if you can find growmore dry mix local it’s good.
