I’ve only started indoor, then moved outdoor.
Biggest containers I’ve used are 40gal plastic barrels cut in half.
I think the determining factor for plant size when growing in containers is how deep they are. Whether they’re 10gal or 20gal doesn’t matter so much as the distance from the top of the growing medium to the bottom of the container.
The 20gal tubs gave me plants about 5ft. tall. I also grew in some 7gal fabric pots, which I found to be a pain in the ass due to them drying out so quickly, and they yielded 4’ plants.
I’m growing in some of those again, and also doing some directly in soil.
I have 3 seedlings about 18" tall that I’m using as a test bed to compare nute treatments in my area. 1 will be planted with Osmecote, which is a slow release general purpose fert, another will be grown with Master Blend, and the third will probably get Roots.
This will also give me an idea of soil vs. large containers.
If the direct soil plants hit 6’, I’ll be happy.
Further North than some, sunlight gets to be a limiting factor too.

not my intention at all! I’ve never used one of those monsters either but anything smaller than 20 may need very/annoyingly frequent watering. In the ground is best in that regard, and for wind resistance.
I have a bunch of bricks keeping my plants from blowing over outside 
(yes, @Foreigner, I’m growing brick weed).

Thanks! I’ve been watering them everyday. I live close to Il, and we took a trip over there today. Got some roots organic terp tea, for flower. Eager to give this stuff a shot
What would be the feeding requirement for something this big? A gallon per plant? First time doing monsters

I’d need more info to be sure but if these were my plants I’d be at max feed every watering but I’m a bottle guy.
Considering im growing Trainwreck and OG Kush, how bad of a smell am i looking at during drying, with no charcoal filters, and a 12x12 room with air circulation, and 60/60?
