High resolution images on Overgrow

I think I should have read this thread before posting my first journal…at what point is it contributing less to the site community, than it is costing said community. Celebrating, sharing, bragging, pay-per-view? Should a personal med grower contribute as much as some of these ‘warehouse’ growers? Maybe user limits on total kb mb gb shit? I have no clue, i use a program from my dslr and just shift decimal to downsize. I don’t have a cell phone and am feeling like I did something wrong.? I don’t want to break OG, but I’d rather not just be a voyeur again. Just let us know when u decide on whats best for the site.

I have not seen any “wharehouse” growers on this site…Can you please point one out to me, so I can check out their page please? Also, why would it be forced for a “warehouse” grower, to PAY more than anyone else using this site? Not trying to be an asshole here, just wondering what that was supposed to mean?

Its OK , the “warehouse” comment meaning 500 square feet plus, there’s lots around, as opposed to someone growing in a 2x2 tent. thats my meaning. As per contribution, I don’t know what that means, is it pics is it likes is it advice is it money? IDFK…but ‘contribute’, to me means voluntary…who said forced? What made OG so successful? Go with that. I just want to make sure that the “contributions” (blurry pics, blathering on etc) in a thread I create actually adds to OG instead of taking up storage space. I have zero complaints about OG, I want to help it grow, I’ve contributed and traded seeds with members and I have a journal now, how else do I pay it forward? I don’t make money from growing weed…

Well said Buddy…I’m sorry if I came off rude there. Only reason I ask, is because I have a big shop, and am trying to figure out how to run the whole thing no-till… I despise what a lot of wharehouse growers do in this industry. I have not really seen any big shows on here yet, but, would like to see the odd one.

Once again, I apologize for my remarks, if it was a bit rude.

Have a good night man,

K.

Its all good, no apology necessary. I love seeing the larger grows, they make me drool. The variety on OG is amazing and even though most growing styles and locations, have very little real info for me, I spend hours reading and viewing their posts. I love weed porn, and peoples passion. There’s almost nowhere else to get this kinda content, and I for one don’t want to see OG suffer. Thanks @Kobracom420 Cheers!

I’m sorry if I made an impression that photo uploads are kind of drag. It is exactly the opposite. Photo galleries are very important and inseparable part of Overgrow nature. Discussion is not about whether to provide permanent photo archive, it is just about how detailed photos we should keep ad infinitum.

Let me make recommendations based on how I’m approaching my personal upload. I’m trying to show important parts and avoid duplicate photos (it is not necessary to upload 5 photos of the same plant or bud from the same day). I’m uploading maybe only 1/10th of photos I shoot. My goal is to make gallery attractive and show only the best shoots.

If you have DSLR you have big advantage over mobile phones. You have the opportunity to shoot very quality photos, especially make great close-ups using telephoto lenses (phones are generally equipped only with medium-wide lens and good close-ups are impossible because they are usually achieved by digital zoom not optical).

If you have the skills you can also adjust levels (to use the dynamic range optimally - increase contrast) and sharpen the photo. Very important is also to crop it to show only important parts or close-ups. Cropping image is also great when you want to point to some detail - e.g. pests or trichomes. Definitely thinking twice about uploading each photo helps. Not because you don’t want to clutter OG, but because you want to make your own thread attractive. For me it is not about quantity but more about quality. But I understand not everyone has the tools, ability or time for photo post processing.

That said, every photo is welcome!

Regarding our services I think that guaranteeing some standard level of quality for permanent photo archive free of charge to all members and providing higher quality to paid subscribers would be eventually good model.

Thanks so much @LemonadeJoe for clarifying that. Helps cool down the alarmist in me. Now for that stupid whitebalance setting LOL

heres an idea, why not give pictures x amount of time at high quality and then after a year, drop it to ~5 megapixels so people can keep their old pics but they dont take up as much room server side, i know some of my pics contains TOO MUCH detail, at full resolution, if i wanted to specifically point out something i would use macro instead of uploading a 20 megapixel shot of a plant including all of the background and dirt and extra stuff

Perhaps registered users might see higher rez images than anonymous? Thus encouraging more users to register and actually take part instead of sitting on the outside.

A default of 800x600 for anonymous users should reduce the load for a bit.

Hey @LemonadeJoe, I tried to post short timelapse videos but mp4 is not allowed and the maximum size for gif files is 1000kb. Any chance this could be changed? mp4 with 10mb would be nice, gif with 10mb would be rather bad quality but better than nothing. (Uploading to YouTube is not an option for me).

Sorry, adding support for video or animation is not planned.

If you have the file saved in Dropbox or some other cloud sharing, you can paste a link to the video which will render nicely in the post.

Thanks, but I’m not going to upload my illegal grow to some outside account with personal data, nor will I publicly connect my selfhosted cloud space to OG. :man_shrugging:

If its not too big, imgur works well and is EZ PZ.

How about being able to expand images full resolution when there are more than one image in a post?

Sure, I can also click on the download button and open that in a new tab.
I’m talking about in the post itself, like you can with a single image in a post, but in a post with multiple images.
