They’re like 6" tall at best… I topped the two for sure boys, #2 and #6(got rid of the flower parts) and stuck em in the veg tent to grow out. Both have opposite ends of the scent spectrum for the FLC but the stem rub is STRONG in these. One is really spicy smelling, and the other has a deeper… seasony… possibly kinda cheesy/dirty feet smell going on. Very complex on that one. Neither exactly match either FLC I have but each male is close to each girl, just much more vibrant, complex, and stronger.
I like #2 but it seems to have a weird leaf issue going on that I thought was spray from the flood table but could be inherent. The #5 girl has the same leaf thing going on If he grows out of it in the veg tent then I’ll assume it was me or environment and may breed with him, otherwise he gets axed asap.
#6 is also good, matches his Mom a little bit closer in both look and stem rub, but has fatter leaves that lay over each other instead of nicely spread out. Going to see what he looks like in the veg tent and decide from there. Still got ~170ish seeds to look through.
I may try and uppot the girls into 1 gallons of coco/perlite and stick em in the flood table just to see what they look like. It gives you guys that may grow the seeds a bit of a show, and I get to see more of an idea of what my male is doing in crosses. It also gives me a break from having to hand water them every day
They’ve been on a steady diet of
1ml ArmorSI
3ml Calimagic
1/2 tsp Maxigrow
5.8 PH
Daily for the last week. The NL5HSS is also getting the same diet but Maxibloom instead of maxigrow so should be an easy transition… May wish I had gotten a bigger reservoir to start though
I think there are two main benefits to fabric pots. One, it allows more oxygen to your soil. And two, it’s kind of impossible to overwater them.
As far as training is concerned, I got these huge paper clips years ago. I don’t really do any training, but when I do, I just stick the paper clips through the top of the pots and then use floral tape or whatever it’s called to tie branches down. Run the tape through the paper clips. Works great.
Well then, water less. It’s that simple haha. General rule of thumb, I go with around 10% of soil volume. So, for a five gallon pot, I’ll water with a half-gallon of water. Easy enough. And then monitor water consumption. Like for my current grow, for some reason the plants are drinking less than they usually do. So even though they’re in seven gallon pots, I’m only giving them eight cups of water every other day. That will change the further they get into flower. But for now, it’s enough.
If you are trying to water everything the same, you will have issues. Last round we had several pots end up filling their saucers, due to overwatering. With them being in fabric pots, we just gave them plenty of time to dry out, and we got no symptoms of overwatering. It took weeks to build to that point, so that shows how useful fabric pots can be.
This is what I SHOULD have done. My soil is a bit slow to drain (didn’t know I needed to add pearlite until it was already too late), so the center would hold water, plus it would suck up the water from the saucer that built up when I wasn’t there. If I had a grow or two under my belt I might have noticed earlier, but leave it to growing pains.
Honestly with the fabric pots I worry so much less than plastic. They don’t hold water except where the plant can use it (and less so pathogens and pests) and the air pruning is amazing. As a beginner at least, I adore my fabric pots.
I did have an issue that I don’t know what’s up with- I have Tropf Blumats now in my flower tent, and I think I put one too close to the edge. So since the edge is dry, even with the saucer full of water, it keeps filling. All I know is I came back the next day to find my 3gal reservoir emptied all over my tent.
Sorry Holy, I’ll keep my pot love quiet now so we can look at your work!
Learning from past grows is what makes us all better for sure. Taking advice is the other part of the puzzle. Some day you will be laughing about all this!
Thanks for letting us clutter up your thread angel.
I picked up a 6pack of blumats not too long ago and been debating setting them up… just haven’t gotten around to it. Would be great for these PNL2 girls and save me a bunch of time. Anything to be aware of, other than don’t put it too close to the edge of the fabric pot?
They just don’t like to dry out is all, keep them wet at all times. They stress it hard in instructions for a reason. And that’s why it’s good to use a reservoir over waterline.
I didn’t have much trouble setting mine- but they are known to be touchy to set at the beginning. Have patience, they are worth it! I occasionally will still water for top dressing but otherwise it keeps the plants happy, less over watering.
Ended up chopping the two FLC BX1 Males (#2 and #6). Neither were looking or smelling as close as I want to the F1 girls, and I need to look through more of the seeds first anyways, was not expecting to find the Golden Boy in the first 7 seeds I popped #4 is now showing as a girl so I got 5 girls out of 7 seeds. I might pick one more to up-pot and stick in the flood tray to finish flowering, but will likely chop the rest once I get an idea on structures and smells.
My initial 12/12 flowering of the FLC BX1 shows that my NL5HSS #1 Male is pretty dominant in leaf structure. I’m hoping a lot of the Lemon and Cheese are still coming through in the buds, we’ll see. If he can only add structure, and maybe some spiciness to clear up the foggy cheese high, that would be ideal. On to more testing!
Up-potted the FLC #1 clone into a 1 gallon fabric with 2/3 perlite(base and middle) topped with 1/3 coco/perlite mix, to get her ready for the flood table. She’s about 8 inches tall now and I’m debating on topping her
PNL2 boy’s are coming along, can already see some coloration on at least one of them so that’s exciting.
That’s what I do in my Root Sacks. I dig the name! During flower sometimes a bit more. I don’t like how the medium separates from the sack around the edges. Annoying. I find them easy to move if you only move 2 at a time. I use 5 and 7 gallon Root Sacks. I got 4 of a brand who’s name escapes me at the moment to try. @ReikoX also got some. He probably remembers better than I do. I have long pipe cleaners for training and just poke a small hole in top edge of sack and run them through. I’m glad I succumbed to @Meesh unmerciful bullying and made the switch. Bless her heart!
Leaning tower of hazy goodness. And yeah that FLC BX1 #3 I liked the most is exploding in growth in the table. Will reserve the last spot for the FLC #1 Mom Clone.
I may have to defoliate the NL5HSS #5 C2 girl a little bit more But I don’t think there’s gonna be much larf, if any on here if I can keep the momentum going. Day 26 so far, ~54 days to go…
She’s only lacking the double serration from the dad. There’s a little of the mom in there too, she has the away leaning leaf blade from the mom and the more star shaped formation, but the overall 9 bladed structure is straight from the NL5HSS #1 Male. Real interested on what the smells are gonna be with these
These guys have really shot up. I flowered at ~10 inches and we’re at ~20 inches today with these pics. #1 is up front. #3 is back left, and #6 is back right.
Looks like you’re gonna have some decisions to make, what with all three of those PNL2 males showing purple like that haha. They look good. Very branchy. Definitely branchier than mine.
I’m not sure if mine has stretched quite as much as yours. One of the Uplifts just shot waaayyyyyy up in the last few days and is dwarfing everything else in the tent. It’s a good eight or ten inches above the next-tallest plant, so it’s been hard to tell if the others are stretching a whole lot. Probably shoulda measured them the day I flipped…
The one PNL2 female I have is definitely showing some purple in the flowers, though, so that’s good. And it’s only day 18 today, so… I really do think finding purple phenos is gonna be pretty easy with this cross.
Not sure how I forgot to reply to you, smoking too much or something
It does look like they’re all gonna be at least kinda purple, if the males are any indication. Mine are really coming along. First pollen drop might be tonight or tomorrow. I’m unsure what I wanna do honestly.
The more branchy male is the least purple of the 3 but might be the frostiest so far. The wider branched one I like the most, is the most purple but not much if any frost that I can see. The middle pheno between the two looks like it has the second most purple and and frost, so might be the best bet to use.
I always try and measure at flip time the first time I run a strain, especially if I may keep it later. Worst case it’s good info for others that might grow it
Good to hear your girl is turning purple tho! I’ll try and get pics of the males tomorrow or so, not too much different yet.
