How should flagging work?

No more comments to the like or I’ll start flagging every single one…

I wasn’t going to weigh in on this but fuck it… here goes.

This site claims to be a censorship free environment… but that is not true is it?
Political discussions are not permitted… even the slight comment , taken by another member as “political” can be flagged. I strongly disagree with this. Some topics walk hand in hand with “politics” such as legalization and incarceration… and topics pertaining to members that use and own firearms or hunt and fish ect. So a certain level of “political” discussion is innevitable and should not be censored.

I also feel that Sponsors should have the freedom to have the flagging function disabled in thier own threads in the Sponsor section of the forum. As a sponsor, if I want to bring to light a situation in my country regarding cannabis and the politics behind it… I should (and other sponsors too) have the freedom to have those discussions in my own sponsor threads.

In general I think the flagging system should be removed and replaced by a simple “report post” function that opens a window for the reportee to choose from a drop down list of complaints that are the reason for the report. These reports are instantly sent to the admin and moderating team to take action … or not.
Giving everyone the ability to flag a post is just opening up situations that can be abused. Essentially, “everyone is a moderator” and I personally don’t agree with that.
There are individuals on this site that fancy themselves as important and they cruise threads and flag what they deem innapropriate…some names come to mind but whatever… this is happening and it’s wrong. It’s the admin and moderating team’s job , not individual members who fancy themselves as wannabe moderators.

So , a simple “report post” function with the drop down menu to describe the complaint and moderators do the rest.
This is how it is done on forums I have been a member of for nearing 20 years and it works. This system ensures that no one is butthurt because someone or groups of someones , don’t like thier content and abuse the flagging system.
Get rid of it… install the report post function
but most of all… remove the ability for members to use the flagging function in Sponsor’s threads in the Sponsor section.

Yes but we also also want as little work for the mods as possible. Constant complaining doesn’t achieve that.

why are we concerned about how much work the mods have to do? It’s the job they signed up for.
That shouldn’t even enter into it really, and I mean no offense to the moderating team.

Well I submit they have real work to do not respond to every petty bullshit grievance a fool has.

What about an automatic removal through a bot type mod…

So once a post is marked several times for flagging the bot removes automatically… and if disagreement on it should happen… then call a mod in… what do you guys think? Thats not new tech…

Currently, if flagging is being abused usually with repetition, the moderators will get cranky. You will know when that occurs, maybe.

See above.

I dunno. I talk alot of shit. A bot might like that. I wouldn’t like to be limited by a bot. If you’re talking swastikas or whatever then I’m right there with you but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

I don’t think individuals , nor groups of individuals , should be able to simply make a post disappear by way of flagging. The only people that should have that power are moderators or sponsors in thier own threads.
in the past the system allowed members to still view the flagged content if they chose too. At the very least, that system should remain in place.

Well it would take several users all kinda flagging the same post for similar reasons etc… it wouldnt be so easy to cause the bot to flag…

Like xbox does with the automatic bans… the bots are accurate… and if you get banned… you know you deserved it hands down…

I think this would be best for the mods to have something automatically prejudge before human attention…

I am rarely flagged, I think only one or two times but feel a freedom of speech is important regardless if the topic is agreeable to all.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to do here but it’s definitely not the place!!!

This does already occur to mitigate the potential for an on-going problem … the post is temporarily hidden … while we are doing other things. Like eating dinner. Or, playing sportsball.

Basically a delayed review but not automatic removal. Controversy is not always bad.

Can we get a poll to sort this out?

Then what is the point at all in a flag??

That only makes sense if it was a good post to begin with… and typically isnt if its flagged etc…

Bots can differentiate bs flags bro… you CANNOT make shit up to get someone banned… impossible

So why couldnt it be the same here??

I see… that makes sense too… but im curious… do you guys set the bots rules??

Perpetual victimization is also real when confronted and some people like to use this type of flagging behavior as a small dopamine rush because it is all they have. That little bit of “power.” In an actual room with these people, this behavior would get the person ostracized quickly.

This is where mods differentiate
