I have a question concerning our U.S. national parks

Thanks for the info explained simply.
I see what you mean by it being a bit of a long shot, it seems a lot of dominoes would need to fall before getting to that point.
But you know how those dominoes love to keep falling once they start.

Yea, I agree with ya there, kinda like the toilet paper shortage during covid.
My wife swears that was prompted by the super popular TV show Supernatural.
they said on the show…something like TP is the most valuable comodity during the Apocalypse.
A lot of women watch that show.

Shorting stocks is crazy and should be criminal in my book.

I agree and that may be by design.
I still say leverage plays a big part in things too.
With the right leverage, people will do what ever you ask them too.
That black mirror episode is a perfect example of this.

An affiliate of the Chinese Government (Gold Paradise Peak Inc)plans to strip over 800 acres of forest and excavate the mountain side along Senator Hwy up to 900 feet deep, devastating this area for centuries to come.

When searched for, the firm, Gold Paradise Peak, Inc. does come up as a “California based international firm in San Mateo, CA”. If you research further –

Look it up for yourself, I believe the key to the description of the firm is “international”. Bottom line – the Chinese are destroying, polluting, & encroaching upon wildlife on United States soil in order to send the products that are raped from US soil to China. WTF is wrong with the US National Forest?

I wonder where all of the minerals go once they are mined?

China maybe???

This was an interesting documentary. I think it may have explained it, but it’s been years since Ive seen it

I do. For at least two reasons.

  • Shouldn’t have been done.
  • Shouldn’t have been done without explicit taxpayer permission.
  • Should’ve charged more (if Exxon agreed, you set the price too low).
  • Similarly, if there was ever a time to adopt a “fuck you” pricing model, this was it.
  • Should’ve included Exxon paying the cost of stringent govt oversight/regulation.

I’m not saying it should or shouldn’t have been done. I am saying that it was foolish for at LEAST one or more of these reasons.

Personally, I don’t think it should’ve been done, period, under any circumstances or conditions.

Thanks for the response.
I do admire your spirit…
You should know the whole exon thing was a practical joke.
It fooled me into thinking it was real.
I left it up to show I know I make mistakes, that is why discussion is such a good thing.

But now something very similar is happening with this (Gold Paradise Peak Inc )

If the people of the USA own the national forest, are we getting our cut?
Does any of the money help the people in any way?
Are we being ripped off by china?

@Rhino_buddy
Thanks for the link.
It looks like you have to pay to watch that video.
But here is a good quote from that site.

the most special places in the nation should be preserved, not for royalty or the rich, but for everyone.

not for royalty or the rich,
It sounds to me like the mining is all about the rich.
But I could have it all wrong…

The company’s already removed both of those web pages from its site, so clearly the public attention is doing something. As far as what’s actually going on, not sure. It seems to have just opened a week or two ago, and all I can find is one report linked to their webpage and the fact that there’s equipment in the area.

However, he said that after years of rumors, a strip mine owned by Gold Paradise Peak Inc. popped up just four miles west of his home. “There’s a lot of truth and a lot of speculation, so it’s really hard to figure out exactly what’s going on,” he said. “So this is potentially in people’s backyards.”

They do seem to have been planning something in the area for 2+ years, and have been filing the proper paperwork, but it’s not entirely clear to me what they’re planning to do. This site run by an organization that assisted them with the paperwork seems more focused on water remediation, though it does mention structures associated with restarting mining.

https://www.cecinc.com/project/gold-paradise-peak-app-permitting-and-wetlands-remediation/

The news report mentions that their plans are contingent on what they actually find. Maybe this is a remediation project that needs to be done anyway, but couldn’t be started due to the expense, and this is all a gamble on the part of the Chinese company that the mining will actually be worth it once they’ve done the expensive and tedious water remediation that they’re contractually obligated to? I can understand the people living in the area being surprised that they didn’t receive any notice though; that seems like a poor choice on the part of whatever government agency is involved. As Mr. Trudeau says, a lot of speculation - that much is certainly true. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s also 8 months before an election, so I have a hunch people are looking for causes to be outraged over.

“There’s no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now. … What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light years away, you know. I’m sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that’s your own lookout. Energize the demolition beams.”

Immediately what I thought of :joy: and I’m all out of likes again

Indeed… they probably posted it in a disused lavatory somewhere behind a sign saying Beware of the Leopard, though. :stuck_out_tongue: Far too much trouble to actually send a form letter or e-mail notifying them of the heavy machinery coming through a few miles from their house.

Why would the NP’s be any different than agricultural lands being sold to foreign interests?

Remember 81 million voted for this… don’t bitch about it now.

I’m an avid camper, Jeeper and offroad enthusiast. Now in my 60’s and lucky if my legs hold up for a walk on a NJ boardwalk.

However, there’s org’s in this country who tell me I must send my tax money in to maintain land I can no longer access or use. Those same lands that are advertised as for enjoyment of its citizens.

I took a roadtrip in 22 to finally see some of these lands that the econuts want locked down… or only accessible to the young and healthy by foot. Shortly after… they locked down millions of acres that had been open since the dawn of time.

All in the name of preservation.

Fuck all those tree huggers.

I knida agree with you here.
I feel there is a great difference in allowing vehicle travel vs raping the land during a mining operation.

You also pointed out what seems like a double standard.
Keep the people off the land in the name of preservation but then rape the land to make the rich even richer.

Sounds a bit like rules for thee and not for me.

Take a look at what’s happened/happening in and around Moab, Utah.

Canceling leases on property, voiding liquor and other services licenses only to award to corporate entities. Inserting activists into the BLM (bureau of land management) for favorable outcomes.

I was shocked when I rode into town, it’s like fucking Dollywood without the rides.

How long till these millions of acres get permits for development like Jackson Hole? So the affluent can have incredible views out the windows of their new McMansions. Don’t believe me… look at Castle Valley.

SUWA… remember that organization.

I could go on, but this shit chaps my ass. No shortage of money to keep everything in litigation, aquire favorable studies, flat out lie out their ass to get what they want. Big part of it financed by the clueless Suzie homemaker who got hoodwinked into a donation.

No such thing as keeping public lands public anymore… we pay… they play.

This country is screwed with the amount of in your face, or behind your back corruption from those in power.

Funny a friend of mine told me 20 years ago that this could happen.
Back then I said it was crazy talk, now it is a reality…WTF?

This sorta thing happens a lot, folks donate to a cause thinking they help the world instead they help the rich get richer.

I agree 100%!
And now we handed them the cannabis industry thinking they would help the people. :astonished:

Back to the subject of park ownership, the US Park service just got whacked with a lawsuit for not accepting cash at the kiosks to get in. They claim it is easier for them. They forgot whose park it is.
My bet is they are going to lose the lawsuit and cash will be accepted again.

I hope your bet wins the suit. I will not hold my breath.

You do understand there are regulations that provide that cash is legal tender in the United States.

I understand that very well.

You do understand that the lawsuit will take some time to work through the Federal courts.

I hope you win the bet.
