Not anymore, not when I can help it.
I still wake up with the sun (when I don’t have to be up before it for work), but have figured out how not to feel compelled to get up and “do things”. I used to wake up with the sun and get up, no matter how tired I was. Had to “check things off the list “, always on the go.
I found a hard time finding things to enjoy, always focused on accomplishing something.
I still wake up with the sun, but have found that just laying in bed for a few hours and dozing in and out is one of the most blissful feelings, and I really never experienced that until year or so ago.
It’s great, and now I try to enjoy that when I can, and early rise when I must.
On the weekends I will get up early, tend to the garden, then go back to bed and lay about, that’s pretty cool, best of both worlds situation.
I’m pretty old and have been a wage slave the whole time. It’s always be somewhere at 7:00 AM so that usually meant up at 5 hit the road at 6 and so on.
Anymore tending garden and trimming is all done before work so some days start at 3:00 AM.
I’m almost retired tho but I’m afraid I’m ruined. Days off I watch birds and water in late mornings…s
This thread must have warmed my heart. I spent the last hour and a half on calisthenics and watching early morning cartoons, all the while being reminded “shhh, don’t wake up Mom!”. Thanks kid.
Anecdotally I used to wake up by the grow light from my closet every morning at 6AM. The thought of snoozing the lights always made me feel guilty so instead I would get up to check on the plants.
For my last 20 working years, there was no start time, or end of day work time. We started a job, and many times had to keep at it until completed.
I could be called in 24/7 .
With that said, when I wake, I go read, after reading, basement garden putter.
After garden puttering, I head out back, and garden putter there for a while.
After GPing, I busy myself, with any of a plethora of things, working a puzzle on the puzzle table, making something I need, cleaning my crappy scooter, been trying my hand at making silly concrete forms, as flow form fountains have captured my mind. Hell I’m the only stupid dude in my area still pushing a lawn mower, over a riding mower.
I may whine like a little bitch when the grass needs cut, but as soon as I roll up a joint, sit out back, smoking, filling my lungs, I always toss the roach into the compost, then I let the mower take me for a walk, as my mind is elsewhere, working on something. Then, I snap to, and wonder for a second, holy hell, who cut the grass?
I’m making a gate way and fence from an old gazebo, I’m cutting apart, then with speed rail fittings, and aluminum handrail, got to weld that up this week.
I got a about 7 skids worth of flagstone to relay around the deck.
I’ll sleep when I die, I like doing stuff. I’m not good at it, but I prefer doing to vegetating.
I believe you are on to something. My last three years have been similar. Now I rarely sleep past 6AM. Usually awake by 5. The first 4-hours of the day are mine to do with as I please. It’s good…
