It's 2023, summer is almost upon us, let's take a trip

Are you doing any fishing up there?

Noy so far but it’s in the plans. Today it’s super sunny and I figured out where the wasps, or what I believe to be hornets now, is hiding. The giant buggers were super active today. I got stung twice in my past trip whole removing branches hanging in front of my shed, stopped chopping just before getting the last branch down.

Now that last branch looks harmlesss but when you change angles…

Can’t find one pest place to help. Orkin, who does service my area, is not returning my calls. Looks like I may have to handle this myself.

Oh yikes! Yeah that’s a big one! If you mess with it wait til night. Hit it with a can of wasp killer. They’ll die.

I got 4 cans that shoot about 18 ft. Problem is the entrance is obscured by branches. Should be a real PITA that I am not looking forward to.

Have an exit strategy. Seriously. I’ve had to run from them before.

Oh I do, I have a fast path to the cottage doors from either point of attack. After the welts left by the 2 that stung me.last visit I ain’t taking any chances. Just wish the “professional” company would call back.

Word of caution for anyone reading, do this at your own risk, be careful.
I have used brake clean before many many times, you have to be quick though.
During the night time when they are all sleeping…
Sneak up quietly and start hosing the nest, focus on the exit point, as they all start flying out of the nest they will die instantly as they contact the brake clean spray.
If your crazy you can light the brake clean on fire as well…
Last week I had to take care of a few nests.

The wasp spray probably works better (I have never tried the wasp spray), but this is the method that I have used with the brake clean many times has never failed me.

Them pest control companies charge an arm and a leg here.

I have heard this before. Also soapy water. I got the wasp spray as it shoots 18 feet so I can be at a good distance. Pest control company here didn’t even bother to return my 2 messages. One way or another, it needs to be gone. It’s blocking my shed that holds my gas and lawn equipment. :unamused:

@chronix speaks the truth. Brake clean is where it’s at! We keep a can in all of our old pit loaders for this very reason.

Just make sure you got another can or two ready! Just in case. Some hives surprise you with how many they got in them. Which is why the fire comes in handy, but depending on Dougs area at this time of year might not be a good thing to do. Don’t need to start any sheds on fire or cause forest fires.

It really is quite something how fast them fuckers drop from the slightest spray of brake cleaner.
The amount I have had on my skin over the years makes me wonder how I am still alive.

Yeah, no way on earth I would be using fire in this location. Especially after all the fires we have had this year.

Yeah, that’s a good idea!
We know you’re smarter than that anyways…no matter how tempting it might be, lol.

Yea, @chronix - when the soap don’t get the oil and grease off, I head for the solvent tank or the brake clean.

Yeah, looks like they were Bald Faced Hornets. Still a few flying around confused by the lack of nest but they will go away. Pest folks couldn’t come till Tuesday so $50 in spray vs $225 plus tax and 5 day wait. Now I just have to be careful walking in the area. My bare feet don’t need to be stepping on the bodies, lol.
