Job Interview

Dress as good as your interviewer. Suit is overkill. Slacks, polo or button down, maybe sports jacket if ya wanna be spiffy, but slacks and a polo are probably plenty fine. Its nicer than the shop requires, but it shows pride and self respect…

And nice shoes. dunno why, but people notice nice shoes…

Disagree. They notice bad shoes.

Nobody goes “that guy has really nice shoes” but they do say “did you notice how dirty that guy’s shoes were?”

Ok, you put it better… Thats more how I meant it… people notice shoes, and if they are dirty, they are SURE to notice…

In the engineering world and some areas of science, bad shoes indicate your level of experience (and whether you’ve become a member of the dark side or not).

Of course it still depends on context. If you show up to a construction job site with sparkling clean new steel toed boots they will make fun of you and deliberately smear shit on your boots.

I work for a company that has no dress code. There is a general guideline: “When in doubt, dress like you’re going to Target”. Glad they didn’t say Wal-Mart! However for interviews they instruct people to show up in business wear. I had to dust off a tie… which now hasn’t been worn since the interview.

There’s a comedian, Dan Mintz (most people know him from Bob’s Burgers), who does a bit about showing up to an interview wearing an astronaut’s suit with helmet, “because they say to dress for the job you WANT”.

I’d probably wear a nice, collared shirt that buttons, with non-jean pants and decent shoes. Good luck!

Birthday suit is a suit. Just sayin.

I thought you were interviewing at a CBD shop / grower, not a strip joint!

My state doesn’t allow full nudity with alcohol. I’m guessing they might have similar to say about cannabis. Just sayin… But I like the concept! lol

Him: Do you smoke?

Me: Not tobacco.

H: Right answer. How often?

M: Every day.

H: Right answer. You gotta be down to work here.

When interviewing instructors for the dive shop, one pointed out he smokes for back pain. Instantly put him at the top of the list for his honesty (he also had years of experience over the other guys, but knowing he would fit in at the after work BBQ’s made the decision easier)…

Most of us there smoked, though not with clients (well, maybe 1 or 2, after hours)

jesus, cost much?

I call this the desert island test. Even more important than your qualifications is “can I spend 40 hours a week with this guy without resorting to murder.” :+1:

On second glance, that model is bigger than mine.
