Johnnypotseed’s 3-ring circus - with autos, photos & sex…reversals, that is! (Part 2)

In theory if you used a plastic cup + soldering iron you could melt them into net cups put prob not worth the time vs $$$ spent on amazon.

Here’s a link to the thread where i’ll post the progress of the first run of my nonsensical ΩPot.

That was my thoughts as well in this pursuit. That and @Slick1 's baseball bats grown in air-pots… so the combo just seemed like the most logical thing to try out as the next growing experiment!

@JohnnyPotseed

Can do the same thing with two 5gal buckets 🪣

I’m looking at this, and thinking how much less work would be involved lol But really, it does look like a nice setup to try out

I’m imagining building a suspended floor about a foot in a half up put pool liner over existing floor …plywood over built floor drill holes in your plywood decking the size you want for pots …then you get into running all your pipe wiring etc …it’s just something off the top of the tounge with many improvements and tweaks we onto something stoned

I’ve tried the 5gal buckets before and they are wonderful. Mine currently is mini version
You can either fill the soil with nutrients and just water only. Or you can add nutrients into the water. Or both. It fits alot of different styles.

A buddy did a variation of this with storage tubs and draining tubing with holes and fabric; he called it a “Sip Tote”

He used this stuff:

Yup same principle…
Just make sure you got an air gap between the water rez and bottom of the 1st bucket 🪣
For what it’s worth. Two 5 gal buckets are easier to deal with and clean if needed.

Well that’d make sense as you’d want to reuse the buckets after a full grow/harvest.

Using buckets, I mean lol

Also, I already have some 2" mesh cups i used in a DIY cloner

But they might be too small, i might get some 3"
lol thats because I just dont trust using the res solo cups

It just seems all the weight of the soil mix would push them through

Oh no! Could you point me to where you have seen this. I’m using them, so. :open_mouth:

It’s about the oxygenation of the solution. In all these cases the water was too static so it was all dandy UNTIL there were roots IN the water; that’s when the problems began. Have you ever DWC @CADMAN ? Same logics if you have.

I was thinking put an airstone in the reservoir to help with just that

I haven’t seen anything about this being a problem in Octos. If you are using clones the roots can be in the water in less then 2 weeks from the time of transplant. At the moment I can see healthy white roots through the fill hole. Guess Ill wait and see. Plants are over 3 ft tall now.

Do yourself a favor… 45mil EPDM rubber pond liner (also used as roofing liner).

Used that for a few years on ebb and flow tables I built. And its been in my pond over 20 years

I keep my mini octos pretty topped up… I think the plant will get oxygen from the roots that are in the soil. The roots in the reservoir are nice and white, but I do have an airstone in each, and I let them get to 1/4 full before refilling. I’ve got bonsai moms, but they are bushy AF, and the Alaskan Purple mom is twice the size of GDP or WW moms… (in the same setup)
