I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m not saying I’m right. I was pointing out that some people have a large library of living genetics that they keep alive and only flower out the flavor of the month when they want. Sometimes having a larger veg area than flower area makes sense.
I get it, that’s why I said do whatever works for you and we all have our goals. There really isn’t a right or wrong as it’s each persons personal preference. My point was a person can keep a large stock of living genetics in a much smaller area then one can flower a plant in. I just didn’t get that idea from the OP. Does not sound like they have a flower tent or light at all. Personally, I just hate flowering in a 2x4 as I cannot grow a full size plant so to me, it’s not very helpful. I have run out of space flowering 4 plants in a 4x4, lol. So a 2x4 is just too small a space for me. Many go even smaller and do fine, just not my style.
Might I point you in this direction?

i’ll reiterate what others have said that id be swapping myself as in the 4x4 for flowering and 2x4 for vegging, you dont need much space for veg and keeping moms, but i also agree with @ABushOfKush points.
Root volume is key, but like most id figure no matter what size spaces we would have we would probably out grow them at some point or frequently lol, im growing huge now in comparison lol but yet still so small.
As soon as I posted this I thought the same thing lol. Something about the layout of a 2x4 and the ease of watering was probably what had me thinking of just flowering in the 2x4. Plus a little cheaper in the light department.
Even the cheap ones are good now, but I’d never grab one without a dimmer.
I agree. If you have the room, go bigger. At 2ft deep, you’ll have a lot of bud sitting in shadows, piled against the walls…larf.
This is just my two cents as someone who both loves and hates LEDs for indoor growing.
One of the inherent problems with LEDs is spacing. So many new units want to ‘cram’ as many LEDs into every square inch possible. The problem is lighting in the corners.
For my own 4x2 tent (veg) I have 4x 60w 4’ LED shop lights. I do have my veg space stacked so I have 2 veg areas in my veg tent, doubling up on the space available. Height does become a problem though so the grower needs to have some diligence.
I would NEVER think about putting 1 small light (1.5 sq foot profile, you kidding me) in a tent.

Here’s my 5x3 flower tent right now. This tent has a ‘crammed LED unit’ and I loathe it. I don’t have the light coverage I want at all because the dang thing is too bright and too crammed together! Alas, it works.
I would try 4x4 for flower and 4x2 for veg, as other have suggested.

The problem I find with most LEDs is that they lack penetration. Manufacturers have to cram as many LEDs into their fixture to make them competitive with other makers/models. The Migro setup (like all others) only has penetration from the 90 angle (perpendicular to the plants) for most home growers because we only use 1 light, right?
The problem with ‘new panels’ and lighting in the corners is that as soon as you put 1 plant underneath the lighting, you no longer have ample lighting in the corners. It’s just a physics thing that goes unnoticed until people spend too much on LED panels which don’t provide enough surface area underneath them.

Regardless of the 4 individual bars to make up the array the unit is a singular unit and it will be fixed in the same location. Most of the time people are going to hang them horizontally above their plants. Let’s call each bar it’s own - Bar A, B, C, D.
The unit spaced at 39" long, with evenly spaced bars, I’m guessing there’s roughly 8 or 9 inches between each bar. If you put a large flowering plant centered directly under the fixture, light from Bar A will not get over to a plant that’s under Bar D, and vise versa. It’s a beam angle thing, and once you put a plant in front of it, it doesn’t matter. PAR tests and photon maps are good but as soon as you throw a plant under it, everything changes.
I’d like to point out in nature (due to the tilt of our plant and it’s rotation) that plants almost never receive light directly 90 degrees above them. I love LEDs but they do have limitations.
This thread is asking for LED recommendations. This thread is not an argument about the nature of LEDs.
If you don’t like them, then don’t use them.

You recommend a professional grow LED and I recommend LED shop lights which are a lot cheaper. What’s there to argue about???

It will be cheaper and easier to water, can’t argue that. But if growing for bud you will be short changing yourself IMO. It’s all about what your goal is in the end. A 2x4 is great for keeping clones and moms around for future work. I just figure if you are going to put in all the work of flowering out plants for bud, you might as well get all you can out of them.
