Let’s see those old grow guides and collectibles!

And you might enjoy this extremely long webpage about the Hippie Trail and hashish, the guy lectures on it:

There are 49 copies of LaValle’s book in WorldCat, it might be worth seeing if any of them are near you in a library:

There are some threads on various older forums especially ICMag where users scan their old slides or photos, this one by Madjag is one of the best IMO, since he was shooting Kodachrome or another excellent color slide film that archives well (and it looks like he paid for professional slide scanning, which, as someone who did that for a job, is a good idea), and his photos are as good and historic as Mel’s to me, take a look!

Hi all, have this copy of adventures of a dope smuggler. I think it is the 1983 print. Any idea of the value and rarity of this book? I see on eBay 1 firdt edition go for 100 and another go for 30. Wondering where this fits in. Not in the best of shape, it was stored in a box by a family member for years.

Looks like the ones I saw on Abebooks for $30 and $100 are both signed, I’m thinking $10-$20.

This is awesome to see. I believe he also authored a cool little handbook about growing tobacco, have you seen that one? An early 80’s publication year if I’m not mistaken. Cream colored wraps. There is a cool little cutout advertisement in there to send off to redeem for some heirloom tobacco seeds! If you get a chance to follow up with your correspondence please share my warm regards as his work is pioneering and inspirational to so many. Many blessings and much love

Found out that the Green Candy “Cannabis Sativa/Indica” series is available to view with a free Internet Archive login, they have Volumes 2 & 3 of both series. Relatedly, I saw someone post recently that they’re soliciting material for new editions:

https://archive.org/search?query=Cannabis+“green+candy”&sin=

Those books featured work from many photographers including the recently passed Doobieduck, and I wanted to post this here too because it’s kind of concerning that an archive from the 60s onward like that might lay unsecured or end up in irresponsible or unqualified hands, what do you folks think as collectors and archivists?

there are a few older books shown in this thread that I have owned… loaned and lost over the years but I have these 4. The indoor marijuana horticulture book is a 93 edition and the how to supercharge your garden is the 99 edition. I knew both the author and the photographer in the years before and after that book first came out in 96

The Cultivators Handbook of Marijuana
Bill Drake, published by The Agrarian Reform Company 1970, rare alternate cover, fine.

When I first saw an image of this version of the cover I thought someone may have painted it themselves or something, but it turns out that it was printed this way, here are a couple others that have sold in the past…

Thanks to Joe at the CannaBookNook for the great care taken in shipping this to me, and the great communication, I highly recommend this EBay seller.

Great find brother buck :+1:

I used to collect books but not of the canna type. It became a burden when moving so only kept a few

ive been recently buying books off apple iBooks, my latest book is the pest control book by ed Rosenthal, looking to try it out for an outdoor grow

here’s how he does mites, im Saving up for more books

“PHYSICAL REMOVAL
Power washing and vacuuming reduce the population and immediately reduce stress on the plants, but are only a first step in a multi-pronged approach to mite control. These two methods are simple, don’t introduce any chemicals or substances to the garden, and bide time before introducing other measures.
PESTICIDES—OFTEN REFERRED TO AS MITICIDES
Herbal Pesticides
Several herbs and spices are effective when used as deterrents.
Capsaicin, the heat of hot pepper plants, deters spider mites. However the treated leaves cannot be processed to make edibles but can be used for other preparations.
Herbal oils such as cinnamon, clove, coriander, lemongrass, geranium, rosemary, sesame, garlic, and oregano, or herbal oil mixtures, are extremely effective. You can make your own with a single ingredient or a combination of ingredients. There are a number of commercially produced herbal-based miticides.
Brewed tea: Rather than using spice oils, you can brew a spice tea by steeping spices or herbs in hot water. Citrus rind contains D-limonene, which is also a very effective miticide. It can be added to the brew. Citrus oil miticides are available commercially.
Some light horticultural oils can be applied as a “summer” spray, but[…]”

I spend a lot of time going through old postcards in those sorts of stores, any recommendations of US stamps to look out for?

Here’s a weird rabbit hole I fell into: historical documents about cannabis sativa and hemp in Hungary, a very bad place today to possess weed but the Caucasian Queen of Hemp in the 19th century and before, the largest producer/exporter in the world for some time:

It’s all very impressive!!!

I think I spent quite a bit of time looking at this thread when I decided to grow again.

Actually my wife isn’t anti cannabis but anti addiction due to her mom. Combine that with raising a couple kids, and it was easy to not think about growing. I always loved growing cannabis and supported legalization. When it became legal (sort of) here in MA, and Covid came along, and the kids were out on their own, it started to itch a bit.

Actually, I saw a post here about the old Phototron and THAT is what got me growing. My user is an homage to that era. Anyway I’ve had to look for a better space to grow indoors and it’s not gonna happen soon so I’m just trying to use the down time to re-read the classics and some of the newer stuff.
