You can buy the darts on Amazon or maybe think of a replacement.

How far above the water to bottom of plants?

About an inch. You can slide the dart up and down with in the pipe insulation if you need to. I cut all my cuttings at 3.5"

Anything made from neoprene works including those interlocking floor mats for kids made from the colored neoprene. I get “classic black” from the grow store in 3 inch pucks.

If you cant find nerf darts, you can use foam hair rollers. I get a pack of 6 thinner ones, or a pack of 5 thicker ones from my local Dollar Tree.
They are just foam tubes with a long stretched out paper clip running down the middle so you can bend them into place for you hair.
Just remove the paper clips and now you can cut them up for your clone holders. Can probubly make 12 or 16 decent sized holders for a buck.

If your mother is in tip top condition your clones will root faster

I don’t keep mothers anymore. I have in the past, but due to lack of space I just clone from my clones. I’ve kept my GG4 going this way for 2 - 3 years now. And welcome to OG @2horriblecreatures :grinning:

Great idea @HappyTrees23s. I add the pipe insulation so that the hole in the lid is bigger and I can get the rooted cut out with out damaging it. The darts are a nice tight fit so not much light gets into the tub. Welcome to OG

Thank You I didn’t think of that. I actually used them 50 - 30 years ago    back when I used them they had plastic clip thingies. Wish I would have seen this or thought of it before I got the nerf. but, if the are like the old ones, they break done and get hard after awhile. Great value idea.

They have two types of foam hair rollers at the store I go to. One feels like sponge, the ones I posted thou are like foam coated with a plastic. They are still squishy  but are almost the same material as the older pipe covers, not the newer memory foam styled ones if that makes sense haha

And thank you Floyd for the cool design ! It looks and sounds like a solid plan

There are 2 classifications of foam, open cell and closed.
Closed would be best for this application.
Open cell will soak up fluid (think sponge) closed will not.

Cheers

I double that @Floyd. Your post has given me the boot in the butt to try. If it is a bust I don’t have much invested. But hope with your help I make it work.

I have never cloned before. I have been reading everything I can find here as I “loaned” my books to a person working on my kitchen fire. That was last year and never heard anything else from her. She said her hubby was just starting out. I offered her equipment I wasn’t using and still she never got back.

I’ve cloned using different methods over the years. This is simple and cheap. once I put the cuts in it. I do nothing but wait for roots. I change the water out every couple weeks even though you may not have to. Sorry you lost your books. Some people …

I don’t even know the basics like how to take a cutting, how to place it in relationship to the water and everything in between.
