Mapito, tiny rockwool cubes, fill a big pot with them, place tray under pot for run off.

Many stores sell smaller bags of mapito or 1cm cubes, I would use those in a pot with holes for drainage and stand on a tray.
I play with hydroponics too.
These are not bad for a single plant I used to have some of these but someone was so impressed with them they bought them from me.
You can easily mock this up using 2 plastic containers and feed pipe and a pump if your handy with a drill etc A couple of $1 plastic storage containers sat inside each other (1 deep & 1 shallow), drill holes in the floor base of the top one, and drill or cut a hole for the feed pipe tube, small pump and a timer or manual water/feed. Cheap as chips DIY home project. @Growinnblowin
