Doing some root studies. Doesn’t seem like any write-up has solid information that jives with hydroponics. Like root hairs…where do they come from, and where do they go? Will my water culture ever get a hair? are they all smooth roots? The answers please? Yes, no, yes, and maybe! hah hah just kidding. Take a look at these photos.
As far as I can tell, yes, I will get root hairs. Are they all smooth roots, No even deep in the water, there is some kind of hair on the lateral roots.
Things are progressing! You know, I never paid much attention to what the ROOTS of a plant are trying to say. Except now I’ve been looking at them lots and I’ve noticed something:
If the root looks like a thread - the plant is not doing good. If the root is very bulky and white, then it’s doing really good.
alright, I pulled the pin on those seedlings. moved them up to EC 1.4 ph 6.2, I always err on the side of caution where seedlings are concerned. Looks like they are strong seedlings though, as opposed to weaker. In terms of the ability to take higher EC, that is. If I were to sprout seeds like that again, I would know they can take EC 1 right off the bat, probably even 1.4.
I’ve got the multi-cloner out for a huge cloning run of the big bud once it is fully reverted. I will also clone the meat breath and move them into bloom. Seasons are changing! Winter, I should be able to run one more light. Without hitting 30C heh heh.
When I sprouted that plant from seed, it was by far the largest leaves out of the bunch. Lucky it was super fruity and hash producing as well!!! Crazy combos. It produces a few pollen grains later in bloom, but I’ve never got more than 4 seeds in an entire crop. One of the smaller leafed plants tasted like wood shavings. You never know what you are going to get in a seed!
tri-pod took some damage from low calcium levels…d-oh well! They are pumping now at EC 1.4… also the meat breath are getting huge! I need to fire up the clone machine and hang that other hps light. Lets get this party started!!! I haven’t burned that third light since the compassion club got terminated. Can’t wait!!! I’ll have 12 plants in bloom, yum!
lol with all the work and shit and the damned new camera, I got one of the king tut plants in veg burned by a combination of low water and no love. So I rushed in there and sang them a lullaby. uhh I mean I watered it.
ok I got some root porn. This strange looking root formed after the plant was under stress from a combo of things I suppose I had done to it. Including let the water level get really low and the oxygen levels get low as well.
damned plants have a mind of their own! They keep trying to return to their original position when I try to make em go sideways… time to get out the bondage gear lol!
I definitely caused something strange to happen to the king tut plant there in veg. It’s growing out normally now but in just a couple hours while I was away and the water level was too low, it crisped up some leaves. When I come back to the lab, it had multiple crisped up leaves that were all “old” smaller leaves with one or two fingers. I’ve seen some strange things happen to that plant, it doesn’t take stresses well! Moral of the story is take care of your plants. hah hah! Other than that, things are nominal, and I expect that plant to return to normal in a couple days. hmm I will image a leaf for observation, so you can see. I should stamp out some time in the day for observation/care. Two shifts, I think! One in the morning and then one in the evening. Can’t let time and things slip away!
ok, the daily patrols are working good. Everything is up to snuff except the meat breath. I am getting them ready to transition to bloom! Meat breath are doing their “can I have some more please?” dance. They are a curious lot to watch, they move so much! Leaves go down, leaves go up, leaves turn this direction, leaves turn that direction. Under time-lapse they are probably dancing. I don’t have any other plants that move as much as they do or with as much force! The dance of the meat breath has enough force to lift a pipe cleaner up in the air if you set it on top. I should weigh that thing, see just how much it’s lifting. They’re uhh getting ripped for bloom season, it’s workout time! OK enough about them, I got some close up photos of what happened to the king tut plant. When the leaves died, something secreted out of them. Looks just like that crap from the roots, but I should probably get the 'scope out and see.
if that were a tomato and a cannabis seedling, probably the cannabis one would be dead already. They are vicious beasts! I know when I had them in the same container but far apart, the tomato finally killed off the cannabis somehow and survived. I think tomato plants are really strong they can survive in conditions lethal to cannabis.
