Yeah I’d say your prior pollinations worked but the latest one did not. Usually when you pollinate successfully, within 48hrs the pollinated hairs will turn orange and look a bit shriveled before they start receding into the calyx to make the beans If that doesn’t happen, the pollen didn’t work.
I did some trimming yesterday and i did find a bunch of orange hairs under the leaves that you couldnt see before the trim and also a bunch of Calyx without hairs at all. I am just thrilled to have my first crosses starting, now the hard part, waiting 2 months before I harvest lol
I also reached out to Khalifa Genetics to ask about nutrient dosing for fertlized plants, below is their response.Just wanted to confirm my own thoughts.
We have never worked with Athena but when making seeds, receiver plants tend to need higher doses of nutrients as seed production requires a lot of energy.
It also depends on how heavily pollinated your plants will be.
Cheers,
Al & the Khalifa team
You want more of a veg type feed when seed making. They need extra N compared to a standard flower feed.
I have been going heavy all around, using Athena 3 part and Adding Mega Crop 1 part to it. Honestly, im shocked that I only have very minimal tip burn considering how heavy I have been feeding.
P also for genetic transfer @HolyAngel ?
I don’t make seed but that some how is in my head from mentor years ago
Probably a 1/1/1 type ( balanced feed ) would be a good safe bet
I read or watched a video somewhere that said seed making was a phosphorus sink and that you can go very heavy on phosphorus during seed making. I am not sure where i read or watched it tho.
My Athena Pro is NPK 2-8-20 and Mega crop 1 part is 11-5-14. Megacrop also contains amino-acid Chelates, soluble Silica, Chitosan Oligosaccharides, B-Vitamins, 18 L-Amino acids, and Kelp extract. So they are getting very broad spectrum nutrition, I also use my acid based home made cal-mag for pH adjustment so they are just being bombed with nutrition lol
Someone with hydrobuddy would be able to tell you your traditional npk ratio of your mix
So far they seem to be loving what im doing so im not worring about it too much. I am just making sure they have all the nutes they might want, without going so over board that i kill them, I am feeding every other watering so that anything left has a chance to be used, but they way they are sucking up water, i doubt there will be much nutes left in the soil.
I stopped mixing base feeds as it gets complicated and my brain couldn’t take it haha
Athena and megacrop are both pretty simple, Athena is 12ml core and 20ml of either grow or bloom depending on stage, and megacrop 1 part is even easier, 1g for seedlings and once they are about 2 inches, 6g for the rest of the grow. Both mixed in a gallon of water.
Sorry I thought you were mixing mega crop with anthena to get you final feed
I am, I mix the athena per the directions and add the Megacrop 1part too it at the standard for megacrop 6g. Basically I am doubling up my nutes, so it would come out to 13-13-34 NPK in the gallon of water.
You would need to do hydrobuddy to get the elemental ppm of that mix and then convert it back to traditional npk ratio to see
Once you go down the elemental ppm hole things change
Ehh so far its working, if it aint broke dont fix it lol. But I do go every other watering on nutes just to make sure I dont get a ton of build up and roach my plants.
For sure : ) just stoned shooting the breeze
: )
I was also feeding extra Silica at every watering on top of what is in the megacrop until I ran out, and it actually does seem to help a ton with making the branches rigid and able to hold the weight of the buds stacking on them. No scrog net, No support and they are not bending or falling at all.
Yeah, 1/1/1 or close to it would be my bet ^^
I’ve never had issues germinating my own seeds doing so.
Well, I am def giving more than 1-1-1 but so far seems to be working out ok lmao. Honestly, I normally underfeed if it wasnt for making seeds, I would be running about 1/2 strength on my nutes simply to save money.
I am so looking forward to a run of my own seeds, cant wait to see that unchecked hybrid vigor!
