I see Adam was selling a strain called og back then I’m im pretty sure it was created at cia in the late 80’s
Wouldn’t be funny if og was just g13skunk all along.
Hahah I’m sure it’s merely coincidence.
So Is this I’m sure
Great seventy page thread over on ICMag of vintage cannabis photography, including lots of catalogs and magazine ads etc. A real treasure trove to dig into more, I pulled out this 90s Positronics catalog to repost here but there’s so much more:
Oooh nice catalog!! Thanks for posting all that!
That catalog though… seems like a massive rip-off of Sensi’s 91 catalog and/or suspect af.
4-way isn’t 4 different skunks…
Shiva is already NL x Skunk so NL x Shiva as some new thing is just… strange…
Hazes that finish in 8-10 weeks…
Makes ya wonder what Positronics was actually doing over there
Oh yeah in that thread when someone posted it people were ripping them hard for how different their description of Haze was from the earlier catalogs, I don’t think this was an era of honor for Positronics
Here’s OT1 posting a 1980s Positronics description:
Oh shit I forgot to post the link to the ICMag thread, here it is:
Some interesting choices of words in this.
Here’s the precursor to Positronics, this was, according to Wernard, the first seed bank in the Netherlands, started with the seeds Old Ed Holloway brought over before Sam ever came around.
"Just for the record Gentlemen, the probably oldest seed bank in the Netherlands was certainly the Lowland Seed company (1980-1985).
Kees Hoekert was the chairman and I was the secretary, so I did the practical work.
We sold seeds based on Old Ed genetics.
Every spring we sold seed packs.
It contains seeds and organic fertilizers such as fish emulsion.
Varieties from that time were Hollandsch Hoop, Viking, Dame Blanche, Purple, NOI, and so on.
In 1985 the LSC was succeeded by Positronics.
Well those were good times …"

From the Sensi Seeds post about Old Ed’s passing:
“Old Ed, one of the legendary pioneers of the Dutch marijuana scene, has deceased. Wernard Bruining reports: “In 1979, Old Ed came from Oregon USA to the Netherlands. He brought us his knowledge of ‘Sinsemilla’ horticulture and his seeds. For 5 years he lived in my house and I felt blessed in his pressence. For me he was send by God. He tought me to smoke pure, grow organicly and communicate with the plants. His seeds were the first in Europe to be commercialized by the Amsterdam Lowlands Seed Company (1980-1984). That was the start of Eurocannabis. He was a dedicated opponent of the anti-cannabis laws and saw that it was an almost moral obligation to break them. During the years he returned to Europe a few times and made many new friends. We will always remain grateful for his gift to the mellow people in Europe.””

Really great set of articles about early Dutch cannabis activism, going back to some of my favorite troublemakers, the Provos, and covering the history of Kees before he met Wernard, totally worth a read if you’re into that period of history:
@moderators do you think this thread would qualify as a sticky in the Breeder’s Lab?
I heard those plants Ed was working with were garbage. Despite being homegrown it didn’t hold up to the imported brown weed.
Do you know anything about that? Is it true?
It certainly looks better than the pressed brown commercial of the era.
@Motaco I got no idea! Wasn’t even born by the time Ed got to Amsterdam
I have some older seeds of the red hair sensi , I’m assuming skunk red hair is the cross to skunk1.
As far as I’ve been able to figure the original red hair sensi aka red hair skunk is the same or very closely related to the Jamaican red hair. I will be germinating these before next summer with high hopes of success , they have been stored in a fridge at a steady 49% so there may be some chance. I’m going to grow out some heirloom Kona gold first though
Sounds like my kind of guy…
I don’t think anyone born after the mid eighties can imagine what people went though for the cannabis world we have today. But being born in the eighties but living in the UK I have a fair idea… Not twenty five years in jail for a joint bad but still police harassment and social stigma etc!
Finally! Been looking for this for a while now, the oldest SSSC catalogs:
That’s awesome @Dirt_Wizard ! I still have the request form for the 87/88 catalog, that I cut out of the High Times, but never had the balls to send in! I ended up making a trip over in 94 or 95 and brought some seed back to Ontario.
And speaking of Ontario, some of you will remember Richie and the first advertised brick and mortar store, in Ont, where you could go in and actually buy cannabis seeds!
I knew folks the generation before me that predominantly grew the creeper, purple rain , Kandahar and khyber Afghan, a lot of those strains were a huge part of cannabis in California at one time.
Master thai used a lot sssc genetics and you will still see some breeders like swami refer to certain lines with the number m identifier.
Crazy price already any a few hours to go.
Just noticed these auctions about to end and thought to come here and ask what everyone thought they were worth and what they would bring. I want to bid, but have a feeling I’m supposed to find these for less than a couple dollars at some used bookstore or something like that. Considered bidding on them if I could get them for about “a pack of seeds” but I have a feeling I’d regret that. Surely they’re worth it, just not to me right now. Appreciate you pointing these out to see in real time what they’re selling for. Much love
