Old Treasures

I found an envelope in my things from at least 13-15 yrs ago and it had three bags in it labeled with seeds. I used to be heavy into genetics back then and had a pretty big grow going. Anyway I used to help people build out grow rooms and from time to time people would give me seeds from projects they were working on. These are from one of those unarmed growers.

The first bag has 12 seeds of African Kwazulu. The second has 14 seeds of C99 x Grapefruit and labeled Sex Bud. The third is not labeled and has 27 seeds.

I know the germ rate will likely suck but seeing some info on here recent about popping older genetics, I’m confident that I can get at least one or two of each to pop for me. Exciting times, much love OG!!!

And the crazy thing is I have no idea what these are? They could be F2’s, they could be a recreation, they could be original F1’s or back crosses. :exploding_head: It’s a huge mystery and only growing them out will tell me what I got!

…this is the only SexBud-strain,i found,so yours cannot be as old as you say! …and it is fem only!

South African kwazulu is a very interesting strain. I have grown it a few times now and have a mother. It is extremely resistant to PM. In a tent I had a pm problem and it wasn’t even affected. It finishes in 9 weeks and provides and energetic high that’s great for working. Sometimes though it can be quite strong on the head and can cause lack of focus depending on how much was smoked.

His sex bud seeds could be as old as he says, he could have seeds from before they strain was released. Earlier genetics possibly. Strain creation takes a long time to do it propperly.

…that could be possible…as freebees maybe

Also, he stated these were given by other growers. They could simply be a pollen chuck and that’s what the guy wanted to call them.

Plants are usually released as regs and then a standout pheno is picked and femmed, no reason these are not that old

They are most def that old, I got them when I shut my old grow down. (Which is when my daughter was born, because we lived in Texas)

Hell it could be bag seed lol. Like I said I have no idea what it really is, and the only way to find out will be to grow them out!

Thanks! Me and my wife went threw some more stuff in that box and found another bag with about 100 seeds in it. Most say GCA and bag seed so I know they were from my old breeding program. A few are special though, gonna be fun to pop all these! (Ak-47f4, blueberry, crazy glue, and a bunch that say GCA) GCA stands for general combine ability. Much love OG!!:pray:

Thanks for the info on this South African cultivar. It’s for sure one that I’m very interested in breeding with.

When you grow em out they going to start whistling at you! “ hey baby, I’m sexbud f5, you forgot all about me! Left me in a drawer forever!” Lol I’m crazy.

I wonder what happened to make him name it that? Maybe it’s like herbal viagra?:joy: boner buds…lol

I have really been wanting to do something with mine as well I have an unopened back of regs to do breeding with oh and my yield is also great on it… I really feel like it needs something to bring out better flavor and something to calm the edginess of the head high. For a strong sativa though it has a great finishing time. Really surprised me. Supposedly the Zulu warriors smoked this strain before going to battle with the British and the galvanizing affects of the strain gave the Zulu what they needed to be great warriors even when greatly outnumbered.

Still hoping I open an old bin in my basement and find the genius x Dutch Flowers lemon Thai I was gifted from the OG 1.0, along with a sack of Brazilian seeds a friend brought back 12 or 15 years ago. However, been thru everything at least once and think I no longer have them. Before I went back to growing again a year ago, with all the moving I did since I stopped in 2005, I wouldnt be surprised if I threw them away or gave them to someone
