@TeamOG @moderators @LemonadeJoe is there a way to adjust a software setting to make it so that only 1 person can edit a wiki at a time? It would prevent some of these issues (although there could be downside if someone opened a wiki edit then walked away leaving it open and everyone else locked out…)
I’ll be more careful next time, but had to reenter edit to take the name (I mean my name) out of one slot! Thanks!
I would say no @Dirtron , it’s been asked and mentioned many times before so I can only think it’s not an available feature. Occasional accidents happen but much of the time it’s people ignoring the system warnings. This is why I was so against those wiki battles that encouraged this type of behavior, seems to have made things worse for every signup unless I am imagining things. It’s really up to the users to slow down, pay attention to what they are doing and be courteous to their fellow OGers. That would fix 95% of the wiki issues IMO
@DougDawson, couldn’t agree more bud! Thanks! I will be more careful from now on!!
I think it also may be the larger user base on-site. I know we disagree on this, but the wiki-battles taught me about the ins and outs of wiki editing. Now, if I see any other users circle in the top right corner (indicating they are already editing) I just back out, wait, and try again…
Yes but nothing stops someone from erasing your name and taking your spot, which is what usually happens to me. It happened twice to me on this one.
I’m trying to get back online gu
thanks @Cormoran would not let me fix or edit. i think others were signing up at the same time?
Fair enough, I just wonder how many learned anything positive as opposed to just learning bad habits? Really there is not much to learn when editing a wiki. Hit edit, add a name and save. It’s good to notice the person in the corner editing but the fact is if you pay attention to the system messages than all will be fine and no edit conflicts happen. Not sure how much of a learning curve is needed to follow the system prompts as they come up. Anyway it’s all good, I scroll though the edits most times so I see who messes them up. Just my opinion bud, I have no problem not agreeing, that’s what makes life interesting
You are a Rockstar, that’s my opinion. Really cool man, people always looking for some good skunk. Thanks bro.
One trick that helps is open a text editor (of any sort) type the text string
e.g. {@Gpaw :canada :} …without the brackets and extra space…
then copy the string
open up the wiki to edit, paste in the text string and save.
That way you are in and out quickly (especially if you type slow like me )
…and pay attention to the edit collision messages.
If you get a message, remember to abandon the edit and do it again.
Cheers

Like @Dirtron said. It would be nice if people could only edit a wiki one time during an event. Also an hour glass time limit should be programmed too. I lost signal for a long time. I would have set the wiki hour glass on 20 min at one person per slot…
“Like @Dirtron said. It would be nice if people could only edit a wiki one time during an event.”
There is a down side to that also, if someone does overwrite you, you are out……
Yes, I have asked about that many times but it should not be necessary. The system messages tell people when they are doing wrong, that is the systems way to make sure people don’t mess up the wiki, people choosing to ignore those messages is not cool IMO. They did program those messages to come up for this very reason, being as how we are all grownups it seems that should be enough Anyway enough of my negativity, it’s just my opinion
Absolutely agree. But if your giving away seeds then it should be up to the giver to set the rules or there would be total chaos. If I could of, I would of set a WIKI TIMER on 20 min. That’s one min per person…
I agree it’s up to the giver to set the rules bud, thing is this isn’t really a rule for an individual giveaway but more how to put your name on a wiki properly. Should be a given for all signups. Than if the giver chooses to add rules or criteria such as timers it is 100% up to them.
Wiki is not build to allow concurrent editors. It only gives you a warning that someone has already saved a new version, so you won’t overwrite it.
If you are doing a time-sensitive contest, it is much better to ask users to post and then re-create the wiki from the order of the posts.
There is no ideal solution, other implementations (locking) would open it to whole a lot of other problems.
CAn default the “overwrite” to “delete”
Remove the overwrite privilige.?
How do you get the software to do this kind of stuff? How much would it cost to have updatable software and hard drives for stuff like this?
I think we all are willing to donate as long as we see the changes that we want.
BTW @LemonadeJoe I have drank a lot of lemon tea with my grandmother.
There is always a solution my friend.
Should be a rule that those who overwrite someone are deleted and banned for that specific wiki, I would give Doug those superpowers …
The Discord software is the best there is, a system where the users post and time stamp and post number become record are the variables , they are what can be done different.
Discourse, that is. I have used them both for clients
