Possibly a better way to handle sign ups than the wiki system

If any of you have tried signing up to a giveaway or seed run that is very popular then you know the wiki system is a pain in the ass when multiple people try to edit at the same time.

I’ve been looking into a solution and I found this website https://volunteersignup.org/.

Pretty easy and straightforward to set up if anyone has any questions feel free to message me and ill guide you through it! Whoever is doing the giveaway would post a link that they are given like this one VolunteerSignup - Online volunteer signup sheets - Seeds giveaway signup sheet. When users click it they will be directed to this page.

You can’t leave the email/phone number fields blank but you can fill them out exactly like I did in the photo. No need for real info just make sure that your Overgrow username is included in either the first or lastname field.

Once you sign up whoever is hosting the giveaway will see this on their end.

It looks interesting but I have to wonder how it would hold up to tons of people on it at once? Defiantly something worth checking out, thanks for posting it.

It’s used by over 100,000 groups and organizations so I would assume it can handle whatever Overgrow has to throw at it!

I sure wouldn’t be posting any personal info anymore than my user on a file that can be accessed by anyone on OG.

Ok I signed up, did it work?

I accidentally took 2 spots. Not sure if there is a way for me to edit, or if it can only be done by the person who created the sign up.

Wait a minute, was that just an example or is this a low key giveaway  lol.

Yeah I can’t see that. Looks like only the one who makes the sign up has access to the full details.

Yea pretty sure thats how it works but easy enough to remove a double entry from the list if it happens.

This is interesting

Seems like a good solution. What, then the person who created the post populates the list themselves on the thread?

Assuming the poster is the only one who really needs the list then it doesnt even need to be posted onto overgrow. They can download a file right off that website with all the names listed for them. I guess they could populate a list themselves if they really wanted to though! Or a wiki style list would no longer be a issue for people to fill out if they arnt racing to get on it lol. After the initial signup through volunteersignup you could ask people to also add themselves to a wiki list.

Rethinking it I would actually have people fill the form out in this fashion!

What are the terms and conditions ? I do like the idea and the jist of it tho

pretty basic stuff from what i could see just to cover there ass. I read it and honestly really dont know what it means so that question is better for someone else.

Anyway you could copy paste them

Each person doing a list would need to make there own account. Playing devils avocet, I have seen people here that can’t handle signing up here. I can see having to walk many people thru this every time. The account holder would end up having to sign many people up?

It’s not meant to be a complete replacement just a suggestion for “high traffic” giveaways/sign ups where editing the wiki can be a pain in the ass.
